Don’t hold with religion. I’m happier believing in the power of nature so I worship that. No church for me so I’m off to visit me old Mum in her care home. She’s been under the weather for a few days but is much improved this morning so off I go.

I'm just sitting around waiting to get my loyalty card stamped for heaven (going to church) and I wondered if there was anyone else is a regular churchgoer on here?
Has there been any unusual activity or pearly gates spotted as we travel through space with massive telescopes?
Do we have a soul?
If we don't have a soul and there's no heaven then should I get pissed up everyday, chase totty and be a wrong un in general and just enjoy myself?
Am I wasting my time going to church?

I tend to do the weekly food shop on a Sunday Morning, find it easier..
I too am not a religious person but was brought up to respect the Church as I was in the Church Lads Brigade as a youngun..
Both my kids were christened RC so as they went to a RC primary school, attendance at the Church next to the school was somewhat expected.. I was christened CofE so didn't take communion or whatever it was and to be honest it was only half hour or so on a Saturday late afternoon or a choice of 2 on a Sunday.. The Priest was a really nice guy and if you missed a couple of weeks he did notice and would make a sarky comment like glad to see your feeling better on the way out![]()
I'm not a good Christian as I sometimes fall by the wayside and doubt what I've been lead to believe all my life, then after a month or so staying away I feel guilty about it and head back to church filling the collection plate with enough cash to replace what I had missed over the weeks to make myself feel better about it,whenever I head out of the church at the end and the vicar says goodbye and shakes my hand and "Glad to see you back" I often wonder if he knows? I should have been christened Thomas instead of Peter but it is something that genuinely worries me at times, there's someone there who's been going to church for as long as I can remember and I know for a fact that he gets into some well dodging dealings from the time that we both had the same pub as our local,it always struck me as a conflict of interests but he doesn't seem to see the irony and I'm to scared of him to point it out tbh..
It's best not to have ever believed if I'm honest,
There is an incredible basic question asked of those who have no religion. "Where do you get your morality from?".
Morality is what we develop from childhood naturally and in childhood we begin with inbuilt morals that have evolved over at least 250,000 years. It is grossly offensive for fervently religious people to imply that the only way that you can be a truly moral person is if you are religious.
Now let's examine in the Christian religions (Roman Catholic, Anglican and various lesser known sub-sets) the Holy Bible. It is an incredibly misogynistic tome in both the Old and New Testicles. Women are considered to be possessions, my house, my dog, my woman etc. In both Testicles only 4 women are mentioned by name.
Here is a morality report in the Holy Bible. Lott invites his mate round to spend time with him, his wife and two young daughters. Shortly after Lott's mate arrives two thugs walk in on them. These thugs want to 'know' Lott's mate in the 'Biblical' sense. Lott is absolutely horrified but powerless. So he does a deal. Instead of these thugs 'knowing' his mate he gives them permission to 'know' his two young daughters. The 'moral' of this is that you must do your utmost to protect males. Females are of no consequence.
It would be an absolutely horrific world if we all got our fundamental moral base from the Holy Bible, the most misogynistic tome ever written. Being misogynistic is only one of its countless serious faults.

Anyway...
My boy was christened Thomas & he's no saint believe me. On his Holy Communion (or whatever it was), he chose a 3rd Christian name (mine).. the poor Priest had to google it but although he was not a good chap, he accepted it
The reason for the CLB when I was younger, it kept me out of trouble and off street corners swigging cider like a lot of kids my age... Ok we had to do marching & band practice but we had football, volleyball, handball & table tennis teams and more importantly did my Duke of Edinburgh Award to Gold Level
Where I grew up we had 3 high school choice and one did not have a uniform policy... all 3 made Grange Hill look like a Grammar School..
It's funny what we talk about when there was no football..
The thing is that I've been going to church since the day that I was born and christened a few weeks later so it's hard to stop believing, the thing is that the Bible can't move with the times,it's what it is no matter when it is read and what people believed to be right (morality) 2000 years ago probably isn't the same as today as 6EQUJ5 points out, homo***ually for instance, can you imagine same *** relationships being considered acceptable 50 years ago never mind 2000,it wouldn't seem possible to them and would cause riots, what about same *** marriage,I honestly can't get my head around that it's right and a marriage should be between man and wife not man and man especially when done in church, being taught from the start of your life that homo***ually is wrong and then witnessing same *** marriages in the same church by the end is something that's hard to accept, what's just over the horizon in a decades time?
Whilst I respect the Church as I have said..
The Bible (& yes I have read it) was written by man many years after the event..
Is there an afterlife (Heaven & Hell)??
Who knows… it’s all about beliefs & 3 things start wars… Land, Religion & megalomaniacs…
I'll hold my hand up (both of them if I'm feeling really charismatic) to being a Christian. Saved in 1969. Play bass in the worship band.
If there's no Heaven or Hell then it's safe to believe that there's no God because they go and in hand together, wars can also be started by love and Old Nick himself, tbh I think that they get started because mankind just likes to fight,it doesn't matter if it's down the pub on a Friday night,at the match on a Saturday afternoon or invading the country next door,we are up for it,ask Putin
