The former host of University Challenge Bamber Gascoigne has died aged 87.
Never went to university but strangely...use to like this quiz show over all the other tripe on offer.....
Anyway....RIP.

Sad to hear that Bamber Gascoigne has passed away, a very well educated and intelligent man. A man of good common sense.
When I was young if I ever thought about doing something risky or outrageous I always asked myself, would Bamber do it?
The answer that nearly always came back was no.
Made no difference though, I still used to go and do it.

Didn't watch it that often (preferred Ask the family) but agree with Tipp that Bamber was better than Paxman who always seems to come over as arrogant. UC always brings to mind the Young Ones appearance on it!😀

He always came over as an intelligent and decent bloke. Apparently, his nickname was ‘shilling’! Think about it!

Absolutely classic 60’s and 70’s TV.
Even more iconic in black and white in my opinion.
A programme that was so watchable even though you hadn’t got a clue what most of the answers were.
Even more compelling with the speed at which Bamber spoke and his tendency to mumble which shows like Not The Nine O’clock News parodied so well.
It was only in recent years that I realised the one set of contestants weren’t actually sat on top of the opposition! 🤣

It was a sketch from a TV show called “Not The Nine O’clock News” Tomas......the guys from “The Young One’s” were guests on this show.
