[QUOTE=Old_pie;39974423]Three of the top teams are doing better than 2 points/game. We're 10% behind that. One team no doubt will drop out. We've then got to be better than one of the two that don't assuming no-one else comes into the mix, or rather, we have to be that one that comes into the mix.
Before the transfer window closed I was thinking we should have cashed in on what we could and start preparing for a fuller and more solid assault next season.
My point was/is… why write the season off? Even if we miss out on top spot, play offs? Yes, you require a slice of luck. But, we’ve demonstrated we’re capable of beating anyone on our day. As have other teams.
I agree, how u can write a season off just over halfway through I have no idea? Chesterfield aren’t great, match reports this season would suggest they’ve probably been quite fortunate to get as many points as they have. Stockport look liked they were steam rolling teams then struggled to beat Dover at home, went 2-0 down to Chesterfield last night till they had a man sent off. Wrexham have been inconsistent all season and it’s probably the same for the others in the mix. Lots of games to go and a lot of games against each other. As for we’re not physical enough for this league can someone specify all the teams in the NL that are full of these man mountains/tackling machines as I think I’ve virtually seen all the teams this season and probably can remember a couple?
Honestly, they were appalling. We’ve seen over the last three games that there’s two ways of playing you can choose from that can get you joy against Notts. You can either do a Grimsby, press really high and stop our passing out, or do a Bromley/Wealdstone and let us have the ball until we’re thirty yards from goal with a massed wall to get past.
Barnet somehow managed to drop eleven men into their own half so there was never any pressure on us playing out, but also leave vast acres of space for Rodrigues, Roberts etc around their box.
I’ve not seen anyone ‘write the season off’, but I think what the recent 3 games confirmed for a lot of people is that we aren’t good enough to win the league. If you think we are fair enough, but it’s still disappointing that we aren’t proper contenders at this stage of the season in this league.
Also I don’t think being physical doesn’t mean we have 3 Arnies in midfield, it means we can win the second balls, win the 50/50s and attack with some pace and power occasionally rather than the more dainty football we’ve become more used to.
Maybe we did all that last night and we’ll continue to do it when we come up against better opposition.
Are we condenders? Don’t know. I’m sure on other forums a lot of fans have self doubt about their teams in terms of style of play and personnel and wouldn’t put their houses on them getting promotion. What I do know is this team has the ability to beat anyone and also mix it with them. it’s an obvious observation but the team that wins it will be the team that finds that consistency in the last 20 odd games and I wouldn’t say any team is nailed on to do that at the moment.
Sidders came closest to almost writing the entire season off but only if we had lost to Barnet and not smashed them for 6 (SIX)#vidiprinter
Agree that it's disappointing we aren't proper contenders at this stage. I was hoping and expecting a little better overall. We aren't good enough to win the league, we are good enough for the playoffs.
