Here is my question is he a holding mid, a forward mid or mid craigie?
I would describe him as a box to box midfielder. His strength is never giving the opposition time to play. It's been a real bonus to me that his goals have been so valuable. Of course we can't know what would have happened without him but what we do know is his goals have been incredibly important for us.

Can't argue with these stats Terry, but your argument assumes that whoever was playing instead of Harkes contributed absolutely nothing. If Harkes wasn't playing there would have been someone else in his place, whether that be a new signing or one of our home grown youngsters. No one can say what they would have contributed - perhaps more goals? Perhaps more assists for others to score more goals. Maybe we would have had more points.

.....and maybe if we had a midfielder in place of Harkes that could actually create something for our strikers they'd maybe have scored the goals that would see us challenging Hearts for 3rd spot.

Don't think anyone is denying that Harkes can be a match winner but doesn't do it enough ie in that 6 game losing streak that I pointed out a few posts back and plenty more outside of that poor run.

So in my and Whitfields defence I don't see much box to box consistently. I see box back to box or sideways back to side. He obviously has talent but maybe he isn't able to show that here. Agree on goals in what has been a poor attacking team. But is he part of that problem? I think he is. Box to box comment had me floored there. seen it 5 times maybe? This does sound a bit like the billy Kirkwood debate of the 80s. But he was surrounded my amazing players so got kind of dumbed down. Harkes should be a stand out every game. He isn't anywhere near that.

If Harkes signs a new contract I'm shutting down this Forum in protest 😇

Of course and we can't possibly know that but what's we do know, 100%, is what Harkes has done. Honestly though, I'd be pretty surprised if another player in this position during these games would have contributed in quite such a pivotal manner.
