    2019– Dundee United 87 (6)

You must have gone looking in the same place as me!

I took interest in someones comparison between Harkes and Scott Fraser, and barring one important difference, their tenure at United is quite similar and they were even born on the same day! Harkes has 6 goals in 87 appearances, and Fraser 9 in 81. That difference though is Fraser did that as he was developing into a player and has gone on to for a fee 2 out of 3 times after leaving. Harkes should be reaching his potential right now, and as much as i like him as a player, if he isnt attracting potential suitors, i would question if he is good enough to deserve another contract.

Getting onto the comparison, and i am probably equally frustrated about both of them as i believe they are at a similar level, but one has improved and i dont see the other one as capable of that.

We would not have been playing these games with 10 men though. It could just as easily be argued that if we had better than Harkes that better player would have assisted and scored more goals so rather than 8th we could have been 3rd.

Its not beyond the realms of possibility that any one out of Glass, Mochrie and Meekieson might have grabbed a chance in place of Harkes and not only taken those chances Harkes had, but even provided a good enough service during games we really should have won and had us fighting tooth and nail with Hearts.

What i would add though there is no point getting rid of Harkes if we are not gonna replace him or replace him with someone inferior to him which is a strong possibility in the current financial climate.Probably better the devil you know.

I am maybe taking too much consideration towards the emergence of Kerr, Nielson and Graham, but that replacement may be under our noses and the coaches are happy playing Harkes while looking after that developing player.
