OK, I'll try and get us back on track as no-one else seems inclined
1. It will only be proven premature in due course. NB Sorry to go back to the earlier discussion but logically, premature isn't linked to political
2. Is it political? Yes, in the same way all decisions by politicians are political
3. Is it thought through. IMO, yes, with risk attached. I also think its a a reflection of the way the country is moving anyway, and (back to politics) HMG won't want to 'lose the dressing room'. Contrast it with the rage on the ground in Scotland, who may be under restrictions for another six months (with good reason if a killer variant arises, see risk above)
4. Is it backed by the scientists? It would appear so.with qualifications, judging by the press conference. This isn't USSR those very respected and very well paid scientists have their own mind and have free will to go against the pm in public if they want. Or are they being political too, keeping their own counsel to preserve their relative positions of influence?
5. Is it a deflection from the PM's issues? Partly IMO but its a move I support so I'll let him off that. So will many, and the vox pops appear tobear that out

There you go again with the personal jibes, and you a mod, hmm!
Its not squirming at all, because in my first post, I asserted that you had done some research to try and back up your perception, which indeed you had.
If you considered your assessment logically, there is no way you could accurately ascertain from simply watching TV or other media that there was a "supposed" over representation of BAME people in the media, not on a 23% proportion.
There are a number of obvious reasons why this is the case, but to take just one instance you, even if you watched a considerable amount of TV, would never be able to watch enough to be able to make an accurate assessment, it can only be your perception that made you think that, based purely on the fact that for some reason you notice when there is a BAME person or persons in whatever your watching.
I think you'd form that opinion if, for arguments sake, you watched channel 4 news and saw two BAME's presenting and then later on saw BBC news and saw 1 BAME presenting. Your point of view would be, I watched two different news channels and the majority of presenters were BAME, thats over representation.
I didn't disagree that the stats appear to back you up, but what they didn't reveal is where that so called "over representation" is - is it in drama, documentaries, news, weather etc? If its in an area which you watch a lot, then it would be noticeable, although again I come back to the question, why is it that you notice this?
There is no squirming here, if only because in the first place it wasn't whether there was an over representation that I was calling you out on, but the fact that you felt it was worth commenting on!
Thats the real question.
The theme is obvious, but why do these posters make so much of the ethnicity of the person and then attempt to link that to behaviour?
Admittedly Thicky extends his prejudice to virtually anyone he doesn't consider to be "British" hence his contemptuous remarks about eastern Europeans! But then Thicky is out and out xenophobic!
xenophobic
/ˌzɛnəˈfəʊbɪk/
adjective
1.
having or showing a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries:
"xenophobic attitudes"
COMEDY GOLD.
Yes I dislike foreigners so much, I spend half my year among them. Hate every minute of it, as you'd think they owned the place![]()
What an absolute twonk you are.
Meanwhile, HMG have chosen to end restrictions in England on my birthday. My present to my fellow posters.
The day after we Dutchies return to almost normality. All we'll still have in place is 5 days quarantine if you test positive, masks mandatory on public transport and the need to test negative prior to travelling to NL from countries outside the EU and Schengen areas.
