Can't really drop Butcher on recent performance and McDonald not fully fit so obvious choice here, bring McDonald on later if we need to calm things down later

This will be tougher than normal, they will pretty much sell out with Fergie being there and Goodwins first home game the team will be well up for it, typical that we are the opposition quite often for these things

Butcher has played in defence and helped us keep 4 clean sheets in a row, was an absolute rock. Now let's just forget all that shall we? Guy can't catch a break on here sometimes

Mcdonald could also be a good option in that position too but even though Butcher's distribution v Huns wasn't the greatest he did do a decent job in protecting the defence.
well phuck me I hadn't read the whole thread. I still knows it irks you to say it though

    Squad rotation maybe?
We have definitely 11 league games & maybe 3 Sc cup games left this season.
So everybody might end up getting a game along the way.
    RB - Freeman & Smith.
    LB - McMann & Niskanen.
CD - Mulgrew, Edwards, Graham, Butcher.
Mid - Levitt, Harkes, McDonald, Pawlett (Butcher/Niskanen)
    Front - Watt, McNulty, Clark
Young guns - Meekison, Mochrie, Neilson, Moore,
Not sure - Sporle, Hoti, Akinola

So the likes of Butcher can play on demand like for blotting out Broonie on Saturday.
Not liking the new manager bounce & statue bounce which will greet us.

Hearing Moore may start against the SSBs. Hoti should never be even on bench. Sporle is just mental id rather niskanen at wb as he is quite a hard player. Akinola could be quite useful when games come thick and fast. This will be like playing st Mirren - elbows all sorts - Goodwin has a very close knit club with our boys in charge - and its not pampas grass - I couldn't lodge that at anyone.

Aberdeen seem to suffer playing against direct style of Motherwell this season, even Dundee scored against them with a long ball their centre halves couldn’t deal with, and direct style of apperre seemed to unsettle them at tannadice when he came on, we don’t really have these kind of players at the moment.

Their keeper seems dodgy too, so maybe corners, set plays represents a good chance to score.

Their keeper is the most over rated keeper since Jim Leighton

I don't think anyone is forgetting about how he performed in defence? However we aren't talking about him playing in defence here. Mcdonald has shown what he can bring to that area of the park in the short time he's played. He's calm, composed, picks out the right passes & almost makes it look effortless such is his footballing brain. He's a better midfielder than Butcher, so with that in mind, I'd start him vs Aberdeen if he's fit. I don't see how any of that is having a go at Butcher? He was excellent at centre half but that doesn't mean he automatically starts in midfield if we have better options.
