Thread: Plymouth Argyll Post Match Thoughts

  1. #61
Very enjoyable day out yesterday..beautiful part of the country. Sun shone all day so nothing whatsoever to complain about, even Mrs Scud did all the driving. Plymouth are a very good footballing side and have been one of the best sides I’ve seen this season. We rode our ‘luck’ at times and they got in behind us more than I was comfortable with. Their finishing was poor all game and so was ours to some extent with Freddie wasting numerous chances but at least he was a threat and kept their defenders occupied. Smudge took his goal brilliantly after great play from Wiles who works tirelessly and think a lot of his contributions go largely un-noticed. Some of our players look tired, mentally and physically. I don’t think the mental toll that this season has had on the players and staff has been stressed enough. I actually thought Tutu did a pretty good job yesterday and was pleased with his general contribution.

    Appreciate that. All good 👍

Just decided that I'm going to focus on continuing to enjoy this team and the fantastic season they are playing before our eyes. Not let anything distract from that. The bigger fool unfortunately is anyone who responds to the crap. Lost cause, don't even care why now.

Only real shame is after being warned to not keep posting the same thing repeatedly in threads nothing is done when flagrantly ignored. Ah well.

Look forward to different opinions and debates with everyone who can think beyond their own agenda. Mercifully that is most.

    Up the Millers!

Not sure what you want me to do MT as I don't read every post. I just took a look at Gru's last 40 posts and he contributes to many threads on a variety of topics, without ever mentioning the things that seem to irk you, me and a few others. OK, he does often repeat himself and contradict himself but that's hardly a crime. If I banned him there would be as many up in arms on here about that as there are frustrated by him.

Never said ban him, don't want that. The frustration comes from you saying a few weeks ago that you're fed up of him annoying people by the constant repeating of the same things in threads. And if it carries on you'll start deleting posts that are basically just duplicates. I think he has carried that on with the same things over and over again but nothing has happened. It isn't the end of the world but after saying that's what you intended on doing, it's a shame it hasn't been fulfilled. IMO.

Every Millers game, before and after, same lines. Okay he doesn't mention them when he talks about horse racing or whatever but that doesn't mean the constants on the Millers threads are any less repetitive.

Sounds a bit like the quote from Gary Player who famously said that the more he practiced, the luckier he got??

I can understand the frustration, MT, and you’re absolutely right about the endless, mind-numbingly dull repetition.

However my take is that Gru is either incapable of engaging coherently with others, at least in written communication, or he is on a lengthy wind-up which gives him some kind of weird satisfaction.

Whichever it is, any form of engagement with him will not be fruitful. If he has difficulty in participating in normal give-and-take exchanges, any attempt to change him will fall on deaf ears. He will simply keep bashing away with the only approach he knows. If he’s on a wind-up then, of course, your irritation is music to his ears…

Simply ignoring what is being repeated endlessly is probably the best approach, in my view. It’s pretty harmless and, if it’s a wind-up, he’s likely to get bored and stop if he’s not hooking anybody.

I don’t think it would be wise to censor his posts unless they transgress the site’s ground rules (and, if they do transgress the rules, CAM should presumably give a warning and ban Gru if he continues.) Being boringly repetitive doesn’t sound like a punishable offence, however.

All good points CT and just for everyone's information, for a couple of days we did try removing any repetitive posts but that becomes a logistical nightmare when other posters have replied to his posts (without using the Reply With Quote) as all of a sudden their posts are left dangling without any basis. When we then removed them to tidy up we started getting questions around "Why was my post deleted". People using their own 'mental delete' (i.e. ignore) is a much easier solution.

No wind up. Tues game said to be on I follow & next Saturday's home game so 2 games to form an opinion on. Know certain players struggle to play consecutive games do we have adequate cover for them? Want us to put best side out possible. Still say Kelly should be 1st choice striker to bring on before Kayode whose not ready for this yet.

You're absolutely spot on with everything you have posted.

For the last clarification (even I'm getting bored of it now as it is pretty trivial), the frustration came from being told it would be stopped and then it not being. CAM has clarified below your post that it is logistically a pain in the butt. Absolutely fine. I get it and it isn't something that should take up moderator's time if it isn't easy to do. But just say that when I asked a few days back. Felt like a blind eye was being turned rather than this mythical magic one. That's why it annoyed me, even more than the repetitiveness. I can ignore that when in the knowledge that there isn't much that can be done.

Never wanted Gru banned or censored. Never about that or disagreeing on the actual points, this place would be dull if we all agreed after all. For me I imagine speaking to friends about something, we chat and they explain to me why the sky is blue say (can't think of anything else of the top of my head). Then the next day I say I still don't get it so they explain again. Then the next day I ask again and they're starting to wonder if I'm being ignorant on purpose or winding them up. By this point if I ask the next day they're probably just going to tell me to do one or give my head a wobble. Say whatever he likes but you don't have to say it endlessly. Wait for next season to moan and nitpick, we will lose all the time then, if promoted.

Sorry to one and all for this protracted nonsense.

Hopefully that makes sense and will be the end of it all.
