It seems slightly odd that Belarus are hosting the 'peace' talks. Not exactly neutral ground is it?

They originally wanted the talks IN Belarus, so the border area is better. It should have been a neutral country though.

Or on Zoom, seeing as it is 2022.

I thought I read something earlier from Lukashenko that sounded like he was trying to distance Belarus from the Russians regime now?

That does ring a bell. Apparently it can't have been enough distancing.

Belarus is very reliant on Russia whether Putin remains President or another regime takes over, so Lukashenko would have to be quite fleet-footed if Putin suddenly wasn't the man in charge.

The leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has told state media that his forces will not join Russian troops in the invasion of Ukraine.

Lukashenko, who is a close ally of Vladimir Putin, said that the "Belarusian army isn't taking part in military action, and never did".

"We can prove this to anyone. More than that, the Russian leadership never raised this issue with us - our involvement in the armed conflict. And we don't intend to take part in this special operation in Ukraine in the future. There is no need for this."

Fears had been raised on Monday that Lukashenko was preparing to send a military force to join in the attack on Kyiv.

This is a party political broadcast from the far right wing of the Monster Raving Loony Party:

Yep, to scumbags who actually believe that because it was just Boris and his mates having a drink and a bit of cake for 10 minutes to celebrate a family occasion there's no problem. For others who followed the rules that Boris and his government repeatedly preached, and would have given almost anything just to spend 5 minutes with a dying loved one, it was an utterly callous and deceitful betrayal.

Serious question Soccerman, although I know that just like Boris you are far too cowardly to give an honest answer - would you be prepared to look in the eye any one of the thousands who followed the rules and missed the chance to say a final goodbye to a close relative, and tell them that what Boris and his cronies did was perfectly acceptable?

Makes sense really. If the sanctions are damaging the Russian economy, they will absolutely bury the Belarussian economy. The knock-on effects from the Russia sanctions will be bad enough.

I’m not really after a bite, I’m just pointing out realities to you. Corbyn would have been terrible, but Johnson’s no better. He’s benefitted more than anyone from Russian interference in our democracy, which is why he ignored it. Hard to take his condemnation of Putin seriously now.
