I travelled over from Wigan yesterday to watch. For me we weren’t in the game for the majority of it. Chesterfield played a good high press which stifles the way we play and can’t deal with it. We didn’t go for the second ball or pressure their players. There were good spells when we switched tactics but reverted back. It’s frustrating that plan b doesn’t get implemented early or strongly enough. The second half was almost ardley like to respect the point be sitting deeper.

If you had bothered to read my earlier post, you would have seen that there were many posters who had also criticised Sam. At that time some of his cameo appearances were embarrassing to say the least. However, i have since been full of praise for him or have you not bothered to read that as well.
I really dont know how you can pass comment or criticise others when you very rarely attend matches.

I think people are focusing a bit too much on needing new players, anyway. It wouldn’t matter even if we did get them, because we approach every single situation in the same way. We play out from the back, and if it isn’t working, the answer is always that we just aren’t doing it well enough and never that our tactics aren’t right for the situation.

We got ourselves in a great position last night, 1-0 up away from home in a massive game with half an hour left. But we were coming under increasing pressure from a team pressing very, very high and loading our box to target the fact we only had Cameron who could win the ball in the air.

The solutions were IMO pretty obvious. Rawlinson on for Richardson to give us much more aerial defence, with Brindley shifting to right back to give us a solid back four. We don’t need overlapping runs in that situation. Then Nemane on for one of the three behind Wootton with instructions to keep running into the huge amount of space they were leaving.

Instead we brought on Brunt for Vincent, making the XI even smaller and less physical, kept giving the ball away thirty yards from our own goal trying to play it out, and inevitably crumbled. It was bizarre to watch.

I like our style of football, and it works in a lot of situations. My problem is that we’ve become completely dogmatic about it.

I kind of dreaded opening this thread after a day at work - thought it might be full of unrealistic calls for sweeping change of various kinds. In the end though there seems to be a general understanding that we're locked in to Burchitos Way this season...(barring a big time collapse where he'd be on his way, but that's highly unlikely)

IB's seems to be taking most of the flak but some of that should be directed more at recruitment for leaving us short of options, or extending players who we might on reflection have been wiser to replace (with players who could've contributed more)

Also those creative attacking players - the whole lot of them - who have shrunk and hidden away from home and failed to assert themselves game after game. Their level of performance is their responsibility first and foremost (Rubes and Woots must have single-handedly wrecked their future contract values with dips in form which will have sent the scouts scurrying elsewhere on the lookout for talent)

Any time he’s been asked about the differences between this league and where he’s managed before, he gives the right answer. This league is about intensity. Style of play is less of an issue. Chesterfield weren’t direct by any means. They played out from the back, but they did it so much more quickly than we did.

Burchnall has basically created a flat track bully machine. Put a nice pitch and mediocre fifth tier opposition in front of him and this Notts team and we will steamroller them. Not necessarily in terms of winning 6-1 (although that happens now and again), but just never giving them the ball. But the opposition is allowed to play with intensity and aggression and every single time they do we go to pieces. That he clearly knows this is a problem and it still keeps happening is not good.
To be fair to IB he’s only had one summer of transfers and not yet a full complete season. I think regardless of what happens he should be given another summer and season to address the issues and shortfalls we have. If Ardley was given two full seasons at this level then so should IB.

Mo Ross was right in my view when they both first came in and he said we need some animals. We do need a couple of spoilers and battlers to do the ugly stuff. It’s that we need on the road to grind out the 1-0’s and break up the oppositions play at this level.

It’s worth noting we are not as strong defensively as we were in the first two seasons and that’s something we need to work on. Currently 7th best defence which matches our league position.

We are 4th in the goal scored column with one eye on the eleven goals obtained playing Barnet. If ever the chant can we play you every week was apt it would be for them. But we’ve missed good chances in games.

It all comes down to the fundamental of what you do in both boxes that matters. Finish your chances in the oppositions box and defend chances in your own box.

I know there are threads to prove it lol, you just happend to be front and centre whenever he got brought up and mocked. It's ok it's common for people to be rather premature and OTT on here#viva.

And yes I have now see you've switched and I for one and delighted to see it. It just shows you it's best not to judge a player too soon. Maybe the radar was working after all.

Now he's been given plenty of time to perform he is rightly getting much praise from supporters including ones that wanted him out of the club within a month or so of signing. Laughable but a true story.

He has certainly proved me wrong but I always hoped

You have a tendency to judge players after a matter of a few games , and very limited minutes on the pitch so you aren't really in a position to question others chap lol.

That reminds me of a bloke on here who insisted Ruben was a superstar at this level on the basis of actually seeing him for just 90 minutes!

On Vinny....great talent and really engaging character, but he got away with some really dodgy games just after he broke thru into the team with his early goals. Fans were willing to overlook everything, but he gave the ball away constantly and this has returned in games like Wealdstone and C'Field (if the commentary was reliable). This is fixable but needs a lot of work to iron out probably. Who else though? J'O'B can have the same issues and better not mention our loanee...
Despite reservations on their similarity, I think Francis + Palmer are the best pairing for the rest of the season by process of elimination. Maybe Vinny can come back in strong for the run-in.
Maybe Sam has to play CF and we experiment with others in the 3 behind him. Time non-performers were told their places depend on delivering the goods.

Wow, how condescending, I'd say he has more right than 90% on here.

When was the last time Notts County lost a game 3-1 after being 1-0 up?

Answer: Swindon away on the day Notts County were relegated out of the Football League.

Oh, when was the last time we lost any game 3-1?

Answer: Harrogate in the play off final.

Any other 3-1 defeats as significantly awful as those two?

Answer: Gillingham away on the last day of 2014/15, relegated to tier 4.

OK, no need to bother with the 1988 Play offs.
