I do think we need to cut Goodwin some slack given the mess he inherited (when was the last time we had a good transfer window - probably years ago - it will take time to undo the various signings made by McInnes latterly and Glass). The problem he has is that the squad breaks down into the following categories

Doesn't want to be here - Ferguson, Brown (now that Glass is gone and coaching is not an option) and possibly Ramsey

Only on loan so not interested in where Aberdeen end the season at - Jenks, Montgomery

Not good enough for Aberdeen - Lewis (sad to say given what he was), Woods, Bates, Gallacher, Ojo, McGeouch, MacKenzie (sorry to say), Hayes (even sorrier to say as he has been fantastic over the years), JET, Campbell,McLennan and Kennedy - that's incredibly a complete team that is not good enough to play for us.

Not available - Watkins, Devlin (and that is a totally different fiasco) and Considine

Good enough to rebuild around - McRorie, Ramirez, Barron (early days but enough positive signs), Ramsey (if he can settle down again), and Besuijen

I doubt any manager would make much of a silk purse out of that bunch to be honest. We just need to grind enough results together to get out of this season unscathed - which I think we will do given the lead we have over the bottom two and that they are both fairly poor teams.

We already freed up a bunch of budget by letting the likes of McGinn etc go in the January window and others like Brown will surely follow in the Summer. I have no doubt that Cormack will make all those funds available to Goodwin plus probably more (his ego will be beyond saving if Goodwin flops as well) especially if we sell any players. I am sure Cormack will also fund paying up contracts early to clear the decks for the likes of JET.

So it will then come down to Goodwin's ability to bring in the right players (as I always say managers live or die by their signings). Goodwin seems to be very hands on by his own admission so I can't see Gunn being given much say in who we sign going forward unlike what happened under Glass. I am sure he will bring in some athletic type runners that you need to play in Scotland as well as defenders that can actually defend and that is fine but the real challenge and ultimately how he will live or die is in his ability to sign the three or four players you need that will make a difference in Scotland particularly a creative midfielder, a winger and a goalscoring forward that does a bit more than just score goals.

Over to you Jim, let's see if you sink or swim but in the meantime let's give him a chance.

Jim Onewin has identified some very very good players for us next season….his words, not mine. Since there is absolutely no very very good players in Scotland I am somewhat intrigued by who fits into this category. I personally would sack him after not getting us into the top six but that will be of no surprise to the majority of you.
Cormack is a fraud, Goodwin is completely useless, Gunn is a glamourised butler and Mowbray only got the gig because Glass is ultra friendly with his brother and convinced Cormack he is the man.
Since I am on a rant mode….they can stick their DNA con up their @rse and also the season tickets can go likewise.

Aberdeen FC have let their fans down and trying to convince some of us to buy into what they are doing is going to take a miracle. No one currently at Aberdeen has that ability and the reality is no one truly believes they will succeed. Horrendous time to be a Dons fan.
