Yes, let’s go for it, why should we be beaten, smash him…

Jesus Christ, it's like the Good Old Days on here, excect it seems we all now agree Notts won't get promoted.

There are no easy answers to this one. I reckon there is a 5% chance of a world ending nuclear war. That's not dramatic, just a recognition that Putin is mad and has his mad hand on the nuclear button (or codes if you like). Whose hand is on our button? Boris, which for all his faults could be worse, if it was Liz Truss it would have happened already. In America it is Biden. God help us. What does this red button do, Jill? That's why some of us, even on the left, wanted Trump to win. Better the devil you know.

Ukraine needs our support but there has to be ground between Corbyn and Abbott and their alleged white flag policy and trying a Millwall style attack on Putin. Their leader is not being realistic expecting us to establish a no fly zone and trigger WWIII. Ukranians would be just as dead if that happened, we all would be. But I really think it would concentrate Russian minds if the oligarchs were furious with their own leader for putting their cash cows at risk. Germany and France are impounding yachts but Boris is compromised in this by his acceptance of Russian money.

It could all end well, except if you're Ukranian, with a clear out of dirty Russian money from our capital city and football. On the other hand, next week we might not be here at all. Good luck, and may your God go with you.

Liz Truss would be very happy for you to go and stand in front of a Russian tank with a Molotov cocktail in your hand and a cycle helmet to protect your head. But neither she nor you will go and defend Ukraine, will you? It’s easy to say “fight” and much harder to go and do it.

I was looking at pics on the Associated Press portal earlier - the ones no paper would print due to the horrific scenes - and it’s a senseless slaughter of civilians without any pretense at targeting military sites.
Yes, sorry, they were mistakenly reported as Putin's comments but then corrected to Macron's summary. Agree with everything else.

I agree about the no fly zone - it's completely unrealistic. I know he's done well in encouraging more action from allies, but publicly asking for something there's no chance of getting slightly spoils the unified image the allies have created.

He's now revised it to asking for planes only - short of a no fly zone but quite a step up from providing anti-tank missiles. Thoughts?

Serious upscale by attacking a nuclear power plant, It seems like Putin is trying to goad the west into this.

given the Russian MO in Grozny and Aleppo, and given the huge military convoy heading to Kyiv (and other cities), I think the question might become how to respond to an extended siege and relentless bombing of Kyiv. Non-Russians can't stand by and watch tens of thousands massacred on the edge of Europe, and intervention will likely bring retaliation even closer to home.

internal pressure on Putin is the only sensible answer, but seems unlikely. that said, the opinion I'm coming to is that the this war has to be felt in Russia somehow before anything will change. they're too used to fighting and winning wars in other countries. sad to say, but I think the Russian people are going to have to pay for their leader's stupidity, and their complacency.
