They didn't make the 2018 World Cup either, seems they're making a habit of it.

Like us in '74 and '78... At least there we only 16 teams ten, so not as surprising.

Oi Banjo, I’ve plenty of mates over here from European backgrounds that call themselves wogs and us Pommy barstads. The indigenous call themselves blackfellas and call us white fellas. We’re not quite as soft as some of you lot. Retract yourself.

I too was shocked when I saw this post. It even stirred a few private messages of astonishment. However having researched a little it seems not to be what it at first seems to us here in the British Isles.

As a seriously racist slur in the UK I must admit its new Australian use wasn't familiar to me either but I found this interesting article about it here.

Queenslandpie did also explain it in his post and until I dug a little deeper I wasn't sure whether to believe him - until I read up on it!

    As you were gents.

It’s been around for decades over here...we appear to be a little more light hearted in how we address each other.

Still uncomfortable with it Swale - fair enough if in Australia but it is still a derogatory word in the UK

I understand but as this is a web site open to all international users I feel we have to make allowances for the differences between cultures. We know he's in Aus where it is totally acceptable whereas if I posted it from here in Lincolnshire I'd have to ban myself.

ETA: Having said that I trust that QP will not use it again on here, now being aware of the potential offence it will cause. That goes for any other poster in any geographic location of course.

If you KNOW something is offensive, please don't post it, regardless of any disclaimers and explanations.

    Thanks in advance all!

I have no issue with the term if used in your own culture but here in the the UK the term is offensive, so please respect our culture.
