That’s not to dismiss the pain of a nation subjected by an oppressive neighbour not at all. For me Ukraine was lost and the west needed to draw a thick red line and prepare for the next chapter of Putins aggression.

The situation now is that Some countries Germany, France, and USA are of the opinion that Ukraine should seek a peace deal, give Putin the south and east. Their view is that Putin needs to frame his failed invasion as some sort of victory. This would provide an end to the war, after all the east was pro-Russian anyway. I understand this viewpoint and it was my view as well. Compromises needed to be made. The lights would stay on in Germany, Macron could get back to his campaigning and Joe could enjoy his afternoon naps again.

BUT, now my position has hardened. Appeasing Putin is a big mistake. Without removing Putin all he will do is regroup and his military will learn from their mistakes. He will come again, again and again. The only way is to stop him in his tracks.

I do feel there is an opportunity now. It all looks like both opposing forces will be going head to head in the east. If the west were to support the Ukrainians with far more potent weapons NOW ( not just light arms) there is a real chance that the Russian advance will stall again and be pushed back.
This total failure would seriously damage Putins reputation and is potentially a way to remove him.

Totally agree with you! Sad as it sounds it can't be an ( i'm OK Jack ) scenario and if it's WW3 with the consequences then that's the way it will be.

I hope those Russian soldiers who massacred those civilians are hung from the highest trees and their parents get to know what scum they have brought into the world. Killing defensive civilians is absolutely shocking. In fact it's so bad, I won't let our 14 year old watch the news!
