It's strange how perceptions can differ. I watched the Wembley game live on ESPN and then saw in the post match thread, probably from millertop, that Mattock should never play another game. As a consequence, when I watched the full replay of the game I paid particular attention to him as first time around I hadn't noticed him having 'a stinker'. Even under that scrutiny he didn't stand out to me as being head and shoulders 'bad' above the rest of a poorly performing team. Yes he was out of position a couple of times but that's probably more to us playing a left back in a left centre half position. He can certainly pass the ball better than any of our other centre halves that started that game. I'd say there's a tendency developed for some to use him as scapegoat for all our problems, independent of whether he's at fault or not.
PS I agree that we should move on from him with regards a new contract.
