Levitt needs a strong stopper around him, we havent got one. Watt needs support, we dont offer any. Mulgrew made several mistakes today but not his normal solid play.

But its clearly a match management to slow down, consolidate (whatever that means). Hearts were all over the place for the first 15-20 mins, they looked worse than we have many weeks. But we stopped playing and asked them to start. That is a TC issue, he has to change his mentality.
Given Tam's comments the last few weeks, and yesterday especially, I doubt very much he's instructing the players to go into a shell once they take the lead.

One of my mates said he was watching a stream with Hearts TV commentary and after praising United for the start they kept commenting that United became very passive and allowing Hearts to control the ball. They could see it. The idea that Hearts took over because they are a vastly superior team is nonsense. They were there for the taking today but we allowed them to get in to their stride. Game management was awful.

Meekison made about 25 yards on Levitt such was his attempt to track back. Lazy, lazy play and a goal that could've been avoided.
As good as he can be with the ball, this is the one thing that'll stop him making it big in the game down south. It's not the first time either.

Ultimately we didn't have enough in midfield to stop them playing once they started and this was critical to us winning that game as Hearts have got quality in that area of the park.

Us pushing forward gave them all the time & space in the world to play the way they can. We were leaving ourselves so open towards the end of the game. As you say, our lack of midfield cost us badly yesterday, especially when we were pushing for a winner ourselves. Meekison lost the ball the ball on the edge of the box and McKay had a free pitch to run into. Butcher in the middle of the park wouldn't have allowed that to happen.

Move Liam Smith back to RB and put Freeman in front of him?
Also Harkes' absence should be convincing his doubters that he's a better player than he's given credit for.
And if Butcher ever makes it off the Naughty Step I'd have him in at the back instead of Ross Graham for the last 4 games.
Lastly, Charlie Mulgrew has been an excellent addition to this squad & not knocking him but yesterday was a reminder that he's 36 & not 26.

Can't see how Butcher ever gets back in this team tbh. Even then, we're settled with three at the back. I think we proved that when we switched to a back four a few weeks ago and were awful, so that's not the issue for me. The issue is them being exposed by our non existent midfield.

First goal was a cluster feck right from when Graham stepped out of defence to intercept the ball to Ginnely, to Levitt and more not tracking back effectively to Benji putting the ball right on Boyce. Does Graham deserve constant barracking for that, i dont think so as its his first big mistake to cause a goal and done the exact same thing a couple of times and cleared our lines.

Levitt, there is just not enough urgency about his game but i would still have him in the team every week with some protection beside him, and i doubt that is going to be Butcher from now on.

I know this is a pathetic position to defend him from m'lud, but he is our top scorer from last season and this season where TC has admitted to using Clark in a position that is not normally his. For me yesterday, i could not figure out where either of our front "two" were supposed to be playing, and that is all down to who sets the team up.

McNulty was summed up in one run forward where having just come on, he took the ball for a run, then looked absolutely knackered while strolling back which made it impossible to capitalize on the next attack that had been set up.
