    Controversial devil’s advocatey sort of view. Maybe we need to look at an alternative to Smudge? Hopefully Kelly is it, though from the tiny sample of yesterday his touch isn’t as good, but if not I think we need to consider replacing even our best players. But optimistic anyway and bulk of the team we have should be good enough for the league above.

    Summer recruitment / retention of our better players....

    Poor = Relegation
    Decent = Slim chance of survival
    Excellent = Decent shout of survival

    Even if we have a phenomenal window, sign every player we want as the number one preference and keep all our best players, for me, realistically, we would still be in the bottom six and finishing 4th bottom would be fantastic. Then you build from there.

    There is quite a lot of work that needs doing to the squad as a whole to get us competitive over a full season. We were pretty fortunate with key players generally not getting serious injuries this season. If certain people go down we are very light in reserve in some places.

    Scott Twine, who almost single-handedly ripped Plymouth apart yesterday, and probably the best L1 player this season, was signed on a free transfer by MKD. One or two like this in our ranks and it would be a major boost and help to our chances. At least we have the chance to act early...

    Not quite Saw, it went to a tribunal and they ended up paying £300,000 for him with a 20% sell on, still good business eh? Swindon will be rubbing their hands now he's performing well in the L1 and maybe Championship....

    Thanks for that - yes, potentially very good business for both parties in that deal, especially if he stands out again in a higher league. Think MKD and the Owls are the two strongest sides in the play offs

    But there’s an important point here, players like Twine don’t come with a guarantee. Somebody has to take a chance on him coming good.

    George Hirst for example, 13 goals this season, no goals if not on the pitch

    Be nice to just go and get who we want and need with no fuss instead of the usual empty promises about having 1 or 2 in by next week who then never materialise.

    Smith, Kelly, Kayode,Grigg? Hmm maybe another one would be good maybe two if one of them isn’t here

    I’ll kick off if we get another midfielder unless any leave

    Easier said than done. A lot of time and effort goes in to trying to convince a player to sign for us, often we get gazumped by other clubs offering more salary.
    It's a cut throat business where agents play their part.
    Priority is to sort the released / retained list and decide which players we will be taking up the contract options on and try to get the better quality players to sign an extended contract. ( like I said easier said than done).

    Probably no. We just don't have the finances, unless TS knows something we don't.
    The players in this league are also much cuter(sly). We give hell of a lot of free-kicks away. It will multiply. Let's be honest, when we're poor, we're poor.
