Gary Brabin took two ex-league teams - Cambridge and Luton - to play off finals but, despite being named Conference manager of the year, lost both and both clubs sacked him within a year before achieving their aim of getting back in the league.
Tranmere later took a punt on him when they were at this level and they didn't make the play offs, they sacked him and then went up the following season.
The above probably says a lot about what can be deemed a success and what is failure at this level when it comes to being a manager of an ex-league club.

I wonder how many years it will be before Bury AFC finish above Notts in the pyramid. They've just got promoted to tier 9.
