Because our performances on the field got us relegated and our performances on the field haven't got us back up there since.

We are a National League club, and we merit nothing more. Hard fact to accept, but a fact nonetheless. And in any league, IMO, getting into the playoffs is a good result. In this league it's how 50% of clubs that earn promotion do it. If we keep getting into the playoffs, sooner or later we'll get promoted.

Would I prefer we came first and took the auto slot? Absolutely. Was it a realistic expectation this seasons with at least two probably three clubs outspending us? Absolutely not.

On the other hand I was slightly disappointed with our final position. I think we should have come third or fourth.

Should be a league 1 club minimum....
But getting back to the thread and new manager.
I’m sure the brothers knew that birch was going so will have an idea who the next manager will be,and made inquiries already.
I just hope we get somebody with a track recoord who has an ability to read a game and make the changes relevant

"deserve" implies getting your just deserts as punishment or a reward for putting in the extra hours and effort in.

If you asked fans of all clubs, "Do Sheff Wed DESERVE to be in the 3rd tier", almost all would say yes
Frame the question as "SHOULD Sheff Wed be in the 3rd tier" and you'd get a more even answer
Frame it as "OUGHT Shef Wed be in the 3rd tier with their gates and history" and almost all would say no.

Notts deserve to be where they are (due to poor stewardship), but we ought not to be (based on ground/gates)

There must be plenty of young head coaches who’d love the Notts job, but I’m not sure what kind of track record they’ll have. We are in division 5, where people might be getting their first start in management - certainly in England, like IB. I’m confident it won’t come down to a good PowerPoint presentation, at least.

That's what I was trying to say, but you said it better.

l think that is the point. Whoever takes over will need to buy into the "blueprint".

That's the key bit in this repetitive debate/arguement. We deserve to be where we are due to poor stewardship. Something forgotten or ignored by far too many far too often especially when taking pops at the current owners.

Bad ownership will always trump size of ground capacity, size of support etc. Sheffield Wednesday a prime example but there are many many more up and down the divisions including Notts.

I was happy for him to start the season but if we didn’t turn around the away form then I have been happy for us to look for someone else. For me what a team does in the playoffs I don't totally relate it to the manager unless there’s something glaringly wrong, he put the team out I wanted to see and the players just weren’t good enough on the night.

Newcastle have never sunk lower than tier 2 despite having had their fair share of protests against bad owners, so size of the club can keep you afloat to a point, but 25 years of bad stewardship would be enough to sink any club.

What we're seeing on here is a tug of war over the managing of expectations. Expecting Notts to win every week in the 1st or 2nd tier would be silly but there has to come a point where the opposite is true and I'm quite satisfied we've reached it.

No good can come from fans dragging us further down the hill by making excuses for underachieving in the NL. Sometimes you have to say "This is simply not good enough".

The owners have got support in terrific numbers, they can't ask for any more from the Nottingham public. If they don't come up with the goods soon then there's a high chance those numbers will start to dwindle and then their task becomes that much harder. You can't take the support for granted.
