Those that judge how good we are based on league position are delighted, those who judge on performance and entertainment, me included, are still a bit meh
I don't remember many games where we didnt struggle to scrape the draw or the win. But for a couple of results here or there, we could easily have been bottom 6 with no Europe.
We wont last long in Europe with this team and these levels of performance. Will that set the tone for the rest of the season and we end up in a struggle? Who knows, but without decent signings I admit I do worry that we will could end up bottom 6.
If, going by all the back slapping, Tony is doing his job, then finishing top 4 should make it easier to attract a decent quality of player.
Using Tony and Mark's words, their plan was to ensure we are in the mix for trophies, for that to happen I would expect to be watching more games where we dominate and win convincingly.
This team have proven they aren't capable of that yet, if Tony is going to achieve the objectives he set, then he needs to get busy.
Not all “back slapping” A.J….Justaway’s post was very balanced, which I liked. This season’s result has put us in a great position (financial reward for 4th, also from Europe, better chance of recruiting players (due to lure of European football), etc.), but as you’ve also said, lots of work still to be done over the coming weeks on recruitment, which is critical to cement our current position and progress, otherwise we’ll be back to square one.
Lets hope that doesn’t happen, as it would simply waste an opportunity that, lets be honest, an unexpected league position (from last summer) has presented us with. I’ll admit, I was critical of Tam’s appointment last summer, but was willing to give him the benefit of doubt. As I’ve already said, did not expect 4th and Europe, so will forgive the football on show, but want better this season, and it’s unlikely that many of the other teams that underperformed, will next season, so why we need to spend wisely.

I think most punter’s issues with Big Tone is the ‘secrecy’ surrounding his management style, his ‘brusqueness’ and the fact that he has obviously put a few ex-employees noses out of joint. I still think comms could be improved, but the bottom line is that we’ve moved from the Championship, Billy King, Tam Scobie, Fraser Aird, Paul Quinn, Emil Lyng and Csaba Laszlo to beating the Huns, signing Tony Watt, finishing fourth, qualifying for Europe and having a fully functioning and profitable youth system again.

Over the piece, it’s not too shabby.

I think he was sincere with what he said, some though would argue that grass wasn’t green if TA said it was, nowt anyone can do about that. I reckon if we did well in Europe, got to a domestic final, then qualified for Europe again next season, the same people would dig him and Courts up for something else. It’s been the same since Eddie Thompson arrived. I’ve no issue with TA taking the decision to end the role of volunteer, he quantified the decision by announcing they were planning something else, just more professional, with a similar role, time will tell if that’s true. The lad Grady was dismissed after an incident at one of the youth houses I believe, where have I heard of that before, he said he would sue United, where have I heard that before, again time will tell if the club did anything wrong. Paul Reid, smashing guy and a real decent bloke decided he’d had enough at United, had a new boss installed who perhaps dealt with people differently to that which Paul had enjoyed for decades, this happens in every job in life, phukk I’m nearing 60 and working for a large organisation that brings in new bosses or changes to structures all the time, and like Paul, if I don’t like it I can leave, but no-one (I think) is chasing me out the door, nor did anyone chase Paul out the club. MO and TA have a vision of what they want to do at Tannadice, three and a half years into a five year plan, I agree the fitba’s not been great on the eye, but I am encouraged with what is going on and look forward to see how we fare next season.

Spot on, If people want the club to progress (which it has been) they have to understand that not all decisions will be popular.

I have no doubt that the volunteers should be thanked and did their best. It's amazing that anyone gives up their own time for the benefit of the club but no professional club with a desire to progress to its realistic limits should be relying on volunteers and no business with any desire to progress in all areas should just accept long term loyal employees just because of their length of service. The right people need to be in every role, we have no money to waste on dead wood.

The main thing I can't believe they haven't sorted yet is the commentary which is a sackable offence LOL

Correct with a wage to turnover ratio of 132% which would sink most companies people doing work for nothing are a godsend. When we have a sustainable model of say 70 to 80% with an entertaining team still in the top division then i will join in with the backslapping for Tony.
I don't think i'm asking for too much by saying i would like to enjoy going to the games again with the prospect of not worrying about relegation, even bottom six would do for me if the games were worth watching.

I have been one of the most critical in terms of entertainment and have openly admitted on numerous occasions that if it's not worth watching i won't go to the ground. I was also critical of the derby prices which even though we filled the ground was still a bad decision IMHO.

That being said I can still appreciate how hard it is for someone to make the correct decisions under really bad circumstances. They inherited a mess, we were on our way to becoming almost as fun as The Fun and have fought through covid. They have very quickly turned us round in most ways. We are nowhere near the shambles we were, however, your main 2 points do have to be corrected. Entertainment needs to come and wage to turnover needs to be sorted or we will go backward.

Imagine we didn't have that wage to turnover tho? the squad would be much weaker and the entertainment even worse whilst also still being in the championship. IMHO the most important thing was being promoted and not going back down. that has been achieved and has created base to kick on from.

There is no need for over the top back slapping etc but lets just give them a break, let them enjoy their well-deserved summer break with a bit of appreciation and see how we kick on next season
