Which means more tax for the government and Sunak says don’t worry!!

Cheaper now to go abroad than stay in this country. I costed up a cottage in Filey and thought f uck that - so cheaper to go overseas!

It's been cheaper to holiday overseas for years. With our youngest on the spectrum we holiday in the UK as he won't fly and tend to hire holiday cottages but this has only been affordable in the past because he is home schooled so we can get a break during cheaper term times. You can easily pay twice as much in July/August than in May/October for example. There are lots of lovely places in the UK to holiday in but it's not just more expensive in terms of accommodation costs but also time. As someone pointed out, why spend 4 plus hours to travel by car from where I am to get to Cornwall/Wales/North East/Scotland when it takes an hour and a half to Stansted and then 2 more to a holiday in the sun?

If you think you can get from home to holiday in the sun in 3,1/2 hours you are very much mistaken. Obviously it depends on where you live and where you want to go but I reckon to anywhere on the Med then if you arrive at your accommodation in less than 8 hours you have done very well

To be fair it's been many years since I last travelled abroad so just going on what others have told me -I take it you mean taking into account waiting times/delays rather than purely travel time? Think I'll stick with the hours in the car then 😀

In "the good old days" we could catch a 6:00 am flight out of Brum and be sitting round the pool in the Med by midday. These days, you're likely to spend that time still sitting around at the airport waiting for you flight tobe cancelled
