Apart from the Parkgate fixture (which come around every year, abit like xmas) Harrogate, Salford, Mansfield, and Donny WOW how exciting, no disrespect to them 4 efl clubs but FFS.

So if we got someone like Liverpool or Man City and charged 30,40,50 quid a ticket would you go Archie knowing it was only a pre-season friendly? These days it's more about rotating the players, seeing how they perform together and what their fitness levels are like rather than an exhibition to the fans. Don't forget, to our opponents these fixtures 'might' look attractive, not all teams can find opponents above their level and PW might not want to tip his hand against teams we will be facing in the regular season.
That's what they charge here Archie (and more) when those teams come to the USA to play in pre-season 'tournaments' so I'm guessing they'd want similar revenue streams if they were to not do that but play at Rotherham...etc. As you say, if you wouldn't even pay 50p where's the incentive to play against 'big' clubs when the object of the exercise has nothing to do with the level of competition/results and more to do with the other aspects I mentioned.
PS Did you see my question about Meadow Avenue on the Icky to Derby thread? https://boards.footymad.net/showthread.php?t=38291274

Cam, its the guys who have nothing in their lives only RUFC that i feel sorry for (and theres plenty of em) not much to look forward to playing them 4 teams mentioned, a few years ago we played Leicester, a german team Mainze if i remember correctly also Hearts, that sort of opposition i would gladly go and pay going rate.
