This last week or so, since Fword's promotion, I've begun to think the real problem with Notts might not actually be the turnover of bad owners, but the supporters continuingly lowering their expectations. That has, after all, been the consistent factor since the club came out of admin in 2004, since which time there's been this mantra of "We wouldn't have a club if not for....", the idea that you should be grateful just for the club continuing to exist whenever it under achieves. That was never a thing for the first 20 years I was supporting Notts.

It'll partially be a by-product of a steadily increasing percentage of new support since 1959 that have chosen Notts because they are the underdog, fans who want to support a small club with no interest in competing with Fword or any of the other clubs we classed as rivals for the first 100 plus years of our existence. It's a losers mind-set that now seems to dominate the club and I find it all very sad.

They gave him another year, in a covid stricken season and he lost the plot, they tried something a bit different and at times we looked like world beaters, unfortunately it wasn’t enough again and they’ve been left in a bit of a pickle.

I don’t think for one minute we have owners who are settling for non league mediocrity, I’m sure they want out of this league as much as everyone else associated with the club.

And as for struggling to recruit managers in the leagues below us, that’s not necessarily true, if they’re not available and already in the same league for next season, Oxford lad aside.

How happy would everyone be had we spent like Wrexham and Chesterfield considering how their seasons panned out?

It’s all old news, people aren’t settling for less, just sometimes a dose of realism is required.
All good OG, my post was responding to EP's point generally. I hadn't even read the posts before

I like what you say about 'they were nearly hero’s in their first season if it wasn’t for some poor team selection by The manager at the time' It's good to see a respected poster speak the truth like that. Not that it helps us one jot now in 2022, but that one should be treated as fact not opinion

The last thing we should be doing is settling down for a decade or two of non-league football. We should be agitating to get out of here constantly, even if that's a pretty uncomfortable place to be. Each to his or her own, but I want to keep the bar as high as possible.
What’s the point of getting agitated or being in an uncomfortable place with a situation you have absolutely no control of?

Fans don't have a losers mindset at all but they are balanced enough to realise we nearly lost this Club more than once by chasing with money we didn't have and don't want to see a repeat. Fans don't dictate budgets or buy players, or kick the ball on the pitch, so to blame fans for anything is utterly ridiculous.

Would you rather we protest by not attending and watch the Club go under?

It's not your bar to decide the level, you are just a supporter of something you can't control. Whinge and cry about it as much as you want, it makes no difference to the outcome.

Maybe 'cos Notts County FC as we know it wouldn't survive a decade of part-time football?
NL is like being buried alive If you don't kick and scream and bang on the box, you're never getting out.

We're not in part time football?

Stop being so dramatic, we will get out of the NL when the team is good enough to...so far we've been in contention but not quite up to it.

Doesn't mean we won't be this season, time will tell

Won’t make a slightest bit of difference whether u set the bar for the Prem or said actually I wouldn’t be bothered if we dropped another league, we have no effect. I’m not happy we’re in this league but I do believe we have the owners and infrastructure to push on but the proofs in the pudding.

Very smart of you to quote part of sentence.

I did clear up for you that Notts aren't part time and we're not being buried alive. You should change your username to the_antinotts
