UTM's bobbing and weaving is soooo impressive, it doesn't matter what facts and truths are thrown at him he finds a way to shift position and throw out another strong statement with that trademark negative slant. Love it, he's NCMs Mike Tyson in his prime

I've just had a good look through this thread and I honestly think it's silly. Not wanting to throw more money than we can afford at a promotion push is now apparently the same as being comfortable with staying in the NL for a couple of decades. That's mental.

People saying things like 'I want better' and 'we can't keep lowering the bar'. What does that even mean?

As far as I'm concerned nobody wants better for Notts County than I do, and nobody on here would choose to stay in the NL given the choice of EFL.

We should be able to mount better promotion challenges than we have done so far on a normal, sensible budget. There are lessons to be learned in terms of playing style and recruitment that will hopefully be dealt with this summer. If they aren't, that's a problem, but as of now I'm willing to give the owners the benefit of the doubt.

It's not about scoring points it's about goading. Which is what all people currently criticising the club will be trying to do, attempting to goad the club into pushing the boar out a bit to make a decent appointment and threaten a backlash or withdrawal of support if they take the pee.

I'm getting really pissed off with people saying "at least our recruitment is better than when Branston was in charge". It's like saying that cow sh!t smells better than pig sh!t. Is it really so arrogant to hope for better than Guy Branston?

Ok so you don't REALLY think we'd recruit better with Rodwell et al., and you don't REALLY think we should hold off signing players we've been tracking and risk losing them, it's just a strategy to whip up negativity online in the hope that the owners will spend more, is that it?

They don't strike me as that kind of owner to be honest.

    Yeah of course.

He is the master at getting out at the right time as well 😂

I wasn't the one who brought Derry era recruitment up, but seeing as it's been brought up then yes, it is much better now.

What am I supposed to say? That is was better with Rodwell, Branston and Poundpie? (which is what was being insinuated)

No. It's the right and proper thing to want.

Although personally I do find saying "anyone who believes the Radar model has shown some promise and given at least another season could come good is happy with being in the NL, and doesn't want the best for Notts County" to be arrogant.

They don't strike me as that kind of owner to be honest.

The next head coach might not hit it off with the new signings, he might have had a striker at a former club that he knows can do a job for him and would rather have spent the money there instead. I'd rather have had a manager in first and let him have the final say but that's not how they operate, so there's not much to be gained in labouring over that point.

Under Derry it was a different level and - in truth - different objectives, to stay in the league or mid-table at best, long enough for somebody to make Trrew a decent offer, though they wouldn't have admitted that at the time. With that in mind I'm really not up for making serious comparisons between the previous transfer panel and the current one other than to say Derry wasn't happy with the interference and so he probably wouldn't be an obvious match for what we have now.

It doesn't have to be about spending more, it could be about them being more flexible or directing a bigger slice of the budget towards a decent manager. Under pressure they might be more inclined to do that.

Sorry gumpy, but I've just highlighted a major flaw in your cunning plan! It was obvious to all that navypie had some bad things going on in his life when covid started, and he possibly used this site to let off steam. As you've said, keldsyke has stated he wasn't in the best place as has crazyfists on a few occasions*. I've tried largely to keep away from these issues and look on as a spectator, but one thing has become very apparent. Whenever there is an argument that results in the threat of a ban, there is a clear common denominator. That common denominator is the poster who claims to only want to discuss all things Notts, but who really wants to mock, belittle and humiliate any fellow Notts fans who don't see things his way. I'm not keen on bans, but if Swale really wants an easier life as mod, I would respectfully suggest that maybe he should consider tackling the source of the problem rather than repeatedly tackling the results of the problem.

    * I'm a fan of wildlife documentaries, and I've noticed that when hunting for prey a lion will always look to attack the weakest - an injured, slow, young or isolated victim. Often not the easiest watch, but the lion does it for survival because he needs to eat to stay alive. When it appears to be done for personal pleasure however, it all becomes a bit sad.

    .
Almost agree, but it hasn't gone too far - yet.
We've snapped up a RB / RWB and a youngish striker with a great record a tier below. Both obvious needs, we had to do it.
We know it's not going to be 'final say'. That's not the model. But consultation and input is very important, so agree that the head coach has to be in place asap.
