I find it more astonishing that some are waiting to see who the manager is rather than who we sign and are able to keep.
I’m not as convinced as others with the signing of Langstaff. He had an exceptional year with Gateshead last season, his first successful year. He is now taking a step up in standard and expectation. It will be different to what he is used to. I am not saying he will flop, but because he had one successful season doesn’t mean he will continue to. I really hope he does, and he bags 30 goals.
I know we are talking managers, and some of the names some are happy with cements our fall from grace. Is there any players at clubs around the NL we should try to take who are out of contract? I’ll start with Sbarra at Solihull. Scored 18 goals from midfield. Only 23.

Not being able to afford it in these difficult times is something completely different.
Same. If I was in Nottm it would be a given as it was before I left. As for people waiting for a manager? Then fine if that's what they wish to do but why? Let's be realistic about the appointment, it's either going to be a youngish unknown with a hoped for potential (a gamble) or someone off the established managerial merry-go-round (same old faces). May as well get your ST now people and given the Bros' some cash to flash.

I thought exactly the same re Langstaff. A very exciting signing if it comes off. Not sure if there is a massive step up from NLN to the NL.
Wrexham are the only professional club in North Wales and have a large catchment area. Once they sniff success they can pull in the crowds more than Notts can.
Re renewing my ST, I am holding fire for a while. I have a decent job but like most people am looking to cut back where I can.

Langstaff for me worries me, I remember Gary Jones banging goals in for the record breaking championship season, the next year he couldn't buy a goal, let's hope it's not that scenario but I'd prefer signings with pedigree in this or the above league rather than punts on players from below

I agree with that, and is the sort of player we should be trying to sign..

I watched Gateshead in a match last season. I’d never heard of any of their players before, but one of them stood out as a class act - Langstaff. Admittedly my opinion has been formed on the basis of just that one match, but I’d say that the signs are looking good in our striking department, especially if Rodrigues and Roberts are still with us next season.

It was my first year back watching Notts last season, after a long break, and did not get a season ticket, but paid individually for each game. I intend to get one this year, and was leaving it as near to the early bird deadline as possible, why wouldn't you. When the bros moved the deadline back I stuck to my thinking, and will therefore buy my season ticket just before the new deadline runs out.
Hopefully we will have our new coach in place by then, and more new signings. This will not affect my decision however, as I just feel a strong need to back the club at the moment
I have been through some rough times of late, and Notts County have at times been the only thing to keep me going.
I do think there will be a drop off in all areas of ticket sales next season, as things are tough financially for so many at the moment, nothing to do with being pee'd off with the club, in my opinion.

I understand what you are saying and I really hope he is good. We will need him to be. However, the standard in NLN and NLS is not NL level. Look at the teams that come up up, none from memory have troubled the playoff picture. Most struggle. Most are still part time, which in itself creates a bigger gap in the standard.
I would argue that the jump in standard from the Championship to the Premiership is comparable to that from NLS/NLN to the NL.

    Gary Jones league goals....
    1996/97 - 3rd tier - 3
    1997/98 - 4th tier - 28
    1998/99 - 3rd tier - 2

Signing Langstaff makes sense and hopefully he will bang in around 15 goals next season, no guarantees though. Those claiming there's not much difference between the mostly pro 5th tier and mostly part time 6th tier doesn't add up when you take into account how bad the teams down the bottom of tier 5 have been,

I also remember Jones' feast and famine seasons at Notts. Never a better example of a player unable to handle a step up in leagues.

A notable difference is the leagues operated in as pointed out and maybe tellingly the age of both players when they hit a magical season scoring boatloads of goals. Jones noticeably older than Langstaff.

I don't know what to expect from the lad until I see him in the flesh from a dilapidated away terrace, but 25 is a very good to be signing. Should hit the ground running.
