I get it that the Roe v Wade thing was over turned on a legal technicality but the real question remains why so many Americans are against abortion, even in cases of rape? "Infanticide"? Really?

I would very obviously not wish this on anyone but, for arguments sake, say your wife or daughter was attacked and raped and got pregnant and they were adamant they wanted an abortion, would you protest against it? Or say that your daughter got pregnant by her husband/partner but early scans picked up severe problems that indicated a very high chance that the baby would have low life expectancy and little quality of life and would need to be on life support. Your daughter and partner make to difficult decision to terminate. Would you fight their decision?

Abortion in itself isn't an "in" thing, it isn't about "fashion". It's about not over-riding the rights of the individual girls/women concerned to have freedom of choice about their own bodies-and the foetus isn't a self supporting entity at that point.

I don't think conservatives has broken our constitutional system in the way that a ruling like Roe v Wade did, by removing such a contentious and potentious question from the realm of democracy. The worst impact was that it taught political activists not to worry about changing public opinion, but instead to seek out activist judges who would implement their agendas by fiat. For decades, money and talent that might have gone into political activism within the democratic process went into campaigns to short-circuit that process.

You ask very good questions about real-world circumstances that bear on this question. We have no answers, because activist judges put the question off-limits to debate half a century ago. Now we will have to step up to the responsibilities of self-goverment and figure them out. Probably people in Mississippi will reach different answers than those in New Jersey. That is federalism.

One the subject of abortion after rape and incest, that example have been used as a emotional bludgeon in this argument from the beginning. Somewhere I read that those account for less than 1 in 1000 abortions. Anyway, democracies can sort that those questions out.

Sorry, this is just more deflection and using rather facile-and sadly over used- logic to justify racist attitudes and tropes.

I have no truck with those wanting to avoid any uncomfortable truths through fear of upsetting others because you will never be able to tackle the core issues otherwise. The child *** ring in Bradford was run overwhelmingly by men of Pakistani heritage. The data clearly shows this. Similarly, knife crime in certain areas of London is committed overwhelmingly by young Black males. The data tells us this too. We should use the data to try and tackle these and prevent recurrence .

BUT you cannot use the data to logically conclude that all men of Pakistani heritage are child *** traffickers or that all young Black men will be involved in knife crime. If you do so you are skewing the truth for your own ends to push a racist agenda.
