As for whether players stay or go, current situations suggest that it's very much in their hands and that of their agents to (at the very least) influence the process (see Raphina!), and there is the issue I have with Philips. Very recently he has made statements about how much he valued his relationship with LUFC, his family ties, etc etc. There have been no public statements by the player or the club about wanting to leave, or sell respectively, yet he has gone, and couldn't wait until contracts were signed before donning a Citeh shirt, and sold for less than anyone expected, with the added twist that we have been forced to take an untried U18 player for £5m to sweeten the deal for Citeh (at least when Smith went to Scum he did so for maximum sale price to benefit the club at a difficult time).

Hypocrisy of the highest order and it's THAT which I criticise (see post #132 where I said much the same), not his historical contribution to the club.
And it is his fault about going for less money and getting an exchange player? 😃

I guess the answer to that depends on whether you believe it was the club insisting he goes, or the player making it clear he wanted to go. If it's the former, then no, the club bears that responsibility (and the impact of selling for less than the player was worth (so most would say)), but if it's the latter, then yes, I imagine as in most things football-related nowadays, player power is to be respected.

Heads I win, tails you lose. If its the clubs responsibility it just goes to show that our board couldn't negotiate their way out of a paper bag. If its the players, then he and his agent could have helped LUFC by negotiating a higher value transfer fee. Either way, LUFC are the ultimate losers.

Not "spinning" anything, trying to answer your question. It's not clear cut as to who was driving the whole transaction, it's as much about your point of view/opinion as anything else. Doesn't really matter when it all boils down, he's gone, for less than most would have thought he was worth (I don't think that's very controversial), we have an U18, for quite a lot of money, who might be the next best thing, we will see.

Yup not sure how you get out of wishing That KP rots on the bench though.

He was great for us, he has unfulfilled goals he can’t deliver with us and we were paying him relatively low wages compared to other players and he was devoted to Bielsa.

Can’t begrudge his desire to give it a go in a better team, Hope he finishes up with a full set of medals.

I'm not trying to "get out" of wishing that he rots on the Citeh bench, I still do, and where did I suggest otherwise?

I respect his contributions, I despise hypocrisy, it's entirely possible to feel both emotions, depending on what the individual does/says.

(And if he was so devoted to Bielsa why doesn't the little puppy go follow his master wherever that takes him?) Load of sentimental nonsense, as were all the equally sentimental (and equally insincere) expression of love of LUFC.

I think that whichever way it came about our DOF has publicly stated that the board HAD to sell Phillips this close season.

Philips prior to this has said he wants to stay at Leeds and to see out his contract - the board have said he had to go

Now if I where Kalvin Philips how would I react? If i'm going I will have an imput - and going to City achieves ME more money, more trophies [Actually any trophies tbh] and I don't have to move away from MY family in Leeds.
Having made that decision and being wanted by City what am i going to say publicly?

Same as me I expect, He is going to say that Pep is a coach he admires. and that for the benefit of his new employers and their fans he is bound to talk them up in glowing terms, and on leaving he has paid glowing tributes to the Leeds board, management and fans - despite your comment to contrary BEFORE he had actually signed]

But you choose to as you say "heads I win tails you lose" work a way of making yourself sound like you got it right whichever way it spins

As someone purporting to be a Leeds "Fan" you are one misserable example IMO, quick to condem, and slow to acknowledge anything positive.

For me KP has done no wrong, the board decided to get shot of him in order to fund Jesse's All American replacements.

And again (surprise, surprise) the "heads I win. tails you lose" comment gets misconstrued. If Philips had any part to play in his departure, then all the "I love Leeds" guff is cant and hypocrisy. If not, and it was the board, then £42m is well short of what we should have got, and just about everyone says as much (especially when the £5m for Gyabi is taken into consideration), so the board is incompetent. THATS what I mean by "heads I win, tails you lose", one or the other comes in for legitimate criticism. Not about me being right or wrong.

And of course you're entitled to your opinion of me, much good that it will do to mention it.

I was making a comment about your lambasting KP and the derisory comments - I agree with everyone stating that the price was low - I wasn't sticking up for the board, simply stating that as always you can take a negative view of both the player and the board, slag both off, and than say well my comments apply to AT LEAST one of them so as usual I am right!

The only poster on this site who NEVER gets it wrong, shares every opinion about everything with everybody - and ALWAYS has to have the last word, apart from that I guess youre a "stand up guy"

ps - I am currently staying with the wifes relatives on Westfield road in Eastleigh - if you fancy a pint and a chat?

I think you exaggerate how often I think I'm right (a bit). Depends on what you consider a "stand up guy" as to whether I am one or not.

Thanks for the invite, but I'll pass.
