    O/T - Ben Wallace.

Apparently the massive favourite to take over from Boris.

Supposedly very capable and held in high regard but........

This looks like another Iain Duncan-Smith moment to me, bringing in a leader with a lack of charisma with a low public profile is very dangerous in this day and age.

Although it shouldn’t be the case you really do need someone who is capable of energising the party and the public in the way Blair and Boris did.

Ultimately, it’s the Conservative Party membership that has the final say; I wouldn’t be surprised if a woman took over, Penny Mordaunt is, apparently, highly regarded. Liz Truss would be forever mocked over her cheese and pork speeches!

It’s polling of the party members that sees Wallace as the clear favourite Kets.

According to SKY this morning he trounces Mordaunt and Truss amongst membership in very recent polls they’ve done.

Quite like Wallace from his comments on Ukraine-but then he speaks on that subject directly and from a soldiers background and military perspective. No doubt he is well regarded but I'm very unsure of how he would manage the far broader issues a PM would have to tackle and his suitability/knowledge for the role.

I think the Ukraine war has probably been very good for him and his ratings.

I just can't trust any person who served and propped up a Johnson Government. I can't see how they have any credibility left. But I am obviously of a different opinion to most on here.

That doesn’t surprise me, as he has been relatively high profile with the Ukraine conflict, whereas Penny Mordaunt is very low profile in the eyes of the general public. That will likely change once the competition hots up for the PM job. I think that Mordaunt is the sort of person that will appeal to many voters, especially women and she is untainted by close association with Boris. If I were a betting man, my money would be on Mordaunt; I wonder what the odds are?

Ben Wallace? Bluster Wallace more like. Another with an over inflated sense of self.

The odds of those who replace him are depressing.

I don't see anyone in that list of note.

I rarely get it right in politics because I can't guess which way this electorate would typically vote, but I see no one inspiring at all. If LD and Labour manage to form a coalition at the next election and change the voting system from FPTP, the Tories could be in the wilderness for a long time.

Tend to agree with you about Mordaunt Kets and for pretty much the same reasons. Even so, don't know whether she has the knowledge/experience for the PM job either. Still, she seems to be more of an attractive proposition than many others in the frame (and not just in the sense Mick might interpret &#128512
