    They're only friendlies.

    My pre-season so far,

    Wolves 3 Burnley 0
    Clitheroe 0 Accrington Stanley 3
    Padiham 1 Clitheroe 0

All completely meaningless of course, nothing to bother about, but I would like to see a goal from Clitheroe at Barlick tonight, this is getting tedious.

Good luck, sinkov. I hope Clitheroe find the net tonight.

I’ve never bought into the mantra that friendliest are meaningless. I think it is only every said by the losing Manager. Wins breed confidence whoever the opposition may be.

We should beat Shrewsbury on Friday. I accept that they are disrupted by playing two 11’s (usually) to give the squad match practice. However, the squad should perform irrespective of that.

I agree Swiss, they may 'only' be friendlies, but if one team is going to lose, I'd rather it wasn't Burnley or Clitheroe.

    Me too, sinkov.

I don’t like to hear players and staff saying “it’s all about fitness and not about results”. Similarly, “it’s only one match - 45 still to play”. That breeds complacency when a winning mentality is what is required.

Every match matters and every loss should hurt.

Question for you both. If you could attend all the friendlies, would you go to watch them?

    Good question, Supersub.

Yes I would to check out the players and how we perform. I am in England at the moment and hope to go to Shrewsbury on Friday.

One year the summer camp was near Evian and we played Nyon. I went along and enjoyed the match. Even then, I expected all to put in a shift and win.

Fair enough for that Swiss. I would have to travel 480 mile return trip to Shrewsbury and, although I could visit my son in Telford and get free entry to the match with him, I shall not be going. As an ex-semi pro player I was of the opinion that you used the games to get match fit, tried to avoid injury and the result was not important. Only one or two team mates thought differently.

I watch all the Clitheroe pre-season games, a couple of years ago there were ten, how many games do you need to get fit FFS, but the distances involved aren't great, Squires Gate or Silsden are as far as they usually travel, so no problem. I used to watch every Burnley pre-season game I could get to, but not any more, if they send the Dev squad somewhere local, Padiham, Clitheroe, Colne, Barlick etc. I'd go, but nothing else.

So basically, with Clitheroe, all of them, with Burnley, none of them.
