If you want to say it's political BT, then I will say that we're lucky we've had the Tories in power this last 13 years, the lights will be going out soon, but if we'd had a Labour, or even more catastrophically a LibDem government, the lights would be out already.

Back to your old fall-back/default position eh mon ami? The Tories are $hit but any other lot would be even $hittier.

It's time we gave some other lot a go because if this lot make it any worse God only knows where it will all end.

Something like this should a apolitical with a consensus that does not change with the Government. Both major parties are as bad as each other in their attempts to score points off each other.

Therein lies a massive problem for long term planning. Without a commitment to a consensus, the country is farting in the wind in its attempts to deal with these issues.

People are basing their fears on nuclear power technology of the 1970’s. The industry has developed in the fifty years and should be viewed in that light.

New technologies need to be developed on a private finance basis as necessary and that means abandoning opposition to private ownership, but it also means abandoning opposition to nationalisation if it is essential and in the people’s best interests to avoid the scandals perpetrated by the water companies, for example, and to take them into public ownership when up and running.

There also needs to be cross party consensus on subsidising essential industries to spread the burden, a commitment that isn’t subject to political whims and fancies.

Finally there needs to be cross party consensus on investment in the industries - not simply a way of generating dividends for the Government. Infrastructure upgrades and new technology should be guaranteed.

A few thoughts from a consensus, proportional representation based Switzerland.

It is the same in Switzerland, CIB. We have regular referendums on a whole range of issues. The people set the agenda and have a very active say in what matters to them.

Britain suffers from its system of “first past the post”, with a Government focused on not what is good in the long term, but what might get them re-elected after five years. The people, in the meantime, have no say in what happens and, due to the system, are governed by a Government that the majority of the electorate do not support.

Spot on mon ami, I couldn't have put it better myself. Fall-back/default, call it what you like, but that's the way I see it.

I'm not quite sure why you have a problem with this, in virtually every area you moan about, lockdowns, vaccine passports, booster jabs, energy security, border control, Brino, eco loonery, the government position, whilst abject, is closer to yours (and mine) than it would be had we either a Labour or LibDem government.
