Haven’t watched any of the debates and I really don’t know what they are doing taking up prime tv slots.

This whole debacle is about who the members of the Conservative party want as their leader after the MPs decided BJ wasn’t fit for purpose.

It isn’t anything to do with the rest of us who they chose as their leader and certainly it has not done anything worthwhile as fas as I can see for the state of politics in this country given the press coverage that has followed.

    100% agree.

They get forced into doing stuff like this because other parties will berate them for not doing it and not showing what their vision is to the rest of the country.

For me it’s purely a party issue whichever party is in power.

A waste of TV airtime and an unedifying sight.

Having watched the highlights from last night I must say I’m more impressed by Liz Truss.

She plays the ball and not the man unlike Sunak who goes for the personal stuff.

She’s also positive whereas he’s got the demeanour of an undertaker who’s just trodden on a dog turd......he’s more Mowbray than Klopp.

I can also imagine her in “full webbing” with crotchless knickers on which is a massive tick in her box if you’ll forgive the pun.

Totally agree Mick! Sunak is a nasty piece of work and needs a good snack in the mouth for constant interrupting! Don’t know why he just does not f uck off with Mrs Non Dom and count their millions!!

The elephant in the room, is the Mandate the Conservatives won the last election with. Neither of them can throw that out the window (well overtly, anyway)

To be fair, if the solution to economic problems was easy it would have been solved long ago. I agree with Truss that higher corporation tax will not help businesses to grow and that there is a need for Thatcher-esque style policies to help them, but I find it equally hard not to agree with Sunak that the extended borrowing her policies entail will ultimately lead to higher interest rates.
I've heard this said a few times, but there is no logic in this for me. For business to grow in this country, they need investment. The lower corporation tax, the more incentive there is to take profit and not reinvest in the business. Because business investment comes out before corporation tax hits. The higher corporation tax, the more incentive there is to invest it back into business.

So as per most things Truss says, this is completely nonsensical.

I did not watch it, nor will I watch any of it. But Truss has it in the bag because she has the media on side.

There is a reason her team won't let her near Andrew Neil. Because she is a disaster waiting to happen. Just go and take a look at some of her previous interviews.

If this is really the best option we have as PM, then we are in trouble as a country. Its absolutely desperate.

Your last sentence genuinely made me grimace. A horrific thought.

Don’t disagree but many would rather have Truss rather than a rich boy who is a lying c unt - broke lock down rules too - his Non Dom wife evades paying back taxes/inheritance tax and itching to resume millions of pounds worth of interests in Russia!

What kind of knob would try and win over those in food and energy poverty wearing a 3500 designer suit and flashy designer shoes! Talk about lack of common sense!

Many now rather Johnson had stayed after seeing the two! Starmer would be worse with his far left cronies! As the guy come out with one original solution to tackle any crisis?

Yes the country is in a mess and it’s going to get worse as consumer spending is on the floor - the housing market has cooled and the exchange rate shocking!

Get ready for riots - disgusting people abandoning pets - shop lifting on mass! Even people will refrain from using petrol to travel more than an hour to football matches. Last year 2000 away tickets for Middlesbrough would have been snapped up immediately as not even a full allocation. I understand there’s difficulty in selling them even though we have our tickets!

Time to panic! Liquidators will be licking their lips at the end of January 2023 as numerous companies will pull the plug after they pull in the Christmas revenue.

To be honest, if I was a Tory or Labour party member. I'd be looking for the person who'd mostly appeal to other party voters. Typically, whoever wins an election is the party who wins the most swing voters.

Sunak is more popular than Truss with Labour voters, so in theory he would more likely be the choice between the two to win the next General Election - and for that reason I'd vote for him as a Tory member. That would be my thinking process anyway.

I also think Truss's financials make Corbyn's sound solid. Sunak would also be the smarter choice economically, despite his woeful record as chancellor.

And I heard someone say this on the radio - there is something extremely unauthentic about Truss. She was previously a Lib Dem, then a Remainer. Now she is a hard right Brexiteer. She quite happily dispatches with any of her political principles providing it advances her career - as she is doing right now.
