After another lackluster display yesterday I just can't understand why Eddie hasn't stripped him of the captaincy yet. Maybe he does things in the dressing room and at training we don't see but even if you are a leader off the field to be captain you need to back that up with big displays on the field and he just doesn't do that. I see Gerrard has just recently taken the captaincy off Ming's at Villa and all the pundits on sky where saying he's made the correct decision not only for Villa but for Ming's as well. I honestly think that would be the case if Howe took it off Lascelles. Unlike some I still really like Lascelles and I personally think he's got it in the locker to battle the other lads for a starting spot alongside Botman I just don't think the pressure of being club captain helps at all. Now we have him, Schar and Burn basically battling it out for that spot next to Botman he won't be playing every game even if fit so why have him as club captain then have to give other regular starters the armband? I think Pope, Trips or even Botman should take the armband personally I think that would really help Lascelles on field performances get to the level they need to be at. I'm a huge fan of Eddie Howe but for me this is his only real mistake so far. But then again what do I know. What do you guys think?
I thought he done ok on Sat, nothing exceptional, couple of wobbles, but they all have them. I would bow down to Howes judgement on this one, and don’t see it as a mistake, we have several captains in that team, on the field, but they don’t wear the armband, Trippier obviously,Shelvey, Ritchie, Schar, Dummett even. All talkers and experienced at this level, it’s not all on Lascelles to be the ONLY captain, and yes it might improve his performances if he wasn’t captain, on the other hand it might work the other way and effect his self confidence, might feel embarrassment around the other players, who knows? If Howe does decide to take it off him, ( rather than strip him of the captaincy) ffs, I expect he does it in a manner appropriate to Lascelles position and standing within the club, and the playing staff, I’m sure he will, that’s what he’s good at. Wouldn’t even consider Botman, as others have suggested, far too soon!

Not convinced. So I'm content to "abstain". I get all the leadership rah-rah. But he's garbage man. I don't think catching some sun rays over the Summer break is going to change that. The best I think I saw him play was with decent defending performances around him in the season we finished 5th.

Maybe as we improve our back line, it will rub off on him instead of his sh'it rubbing off on others.

Anyway, Steddie is the man-manager; not me.

For me, a large part of the problem folk have with Lascelles stems from the time he came out and backed Ashley. For many, crossing that line meant the gloves were off whenever his performances fell short.

The history of our club is littered with players whose effort and commitment outweighed theit talent but who were appreciated for that effort. Now, Lascelles doesn't lack for either effort or commitment but doesn't get slack cut anywhere near the level of, say, Ryan Taylor or Andy O'Brien who were both limited in ability to a similar extent. Obviously, scoring a goal against the mackems helped but neither of those two had given their support to a hated owner.

I'm not saying that justifies some of the stick he gets and, for me, it no longer has an impact on my view of him (have to admit it did at the time and for a long while after). I just think he's not very good.

Captaincies are ‘stripped’ and not removed in the same way that transfer windows ‘slam shut’ and do not close!

Got to love our sh*t digging press.

My comment about “stripping him of the captaincy” was in response to Geordiejackos wording, just think it’s ott, what’s wrong with “taking the captaincy away from him” got this picture of Lascelles up against the wall and Eddie ripping his shirt off his back saying, there I’ve stripped you of the captaincy, it’s all in the wording, there’s no need for it.

Take what you want from it pal but it's really not that deep.

Still not sure what I think about it.

The more I think about it, I’d prefer to see Trippier get the armband.

An obvious leader on the pitch, talented player and an England international.

I’m starting to think our captain should be someone who plays on the pitch, and is a first team regular… if Lascelles etc are good ‘leaders’ in the dressing room and training pitch, they can carry on doing that right?

Only thing I can think of that might explain it, is for now (and that’s the part I’d stress) we still have a dependency on the likes of Lascelles, Richie, Fraser etc as back up players… maybe this is a way to keep that faction on-side… or maybe I (we) are reading far too much into who’s picked as captain and why 🤣
