The problem with any gesture of support, no matter how significant it may be, is that if its done too much it can become a parody of itself and ends up being counter productive. When the George Floyd incident happened, I would have had no problem taking the knee at the next game as a show of support, protest against racism, however you want to frame it, because I thought what happened to him was revolting. But doing it every game trivializes the whole thing. What exactly are you doing by taking the knee today? Are you still protesting the George Floyd incident or is that old news especially since the morons who killed him are now in jail? Are you showing support for the organization Black Lives Matter, which is a neo-Marxist organization that I don't happen to agree with? Are you protesting racism in general or specifically police victimization of minority groups? It all becomes so fuzzy that it risks being a completely meaningless gesture, which it seems to have become.

Matt did you ignore this weeks report about abuse on Twitter.

Ronaldo and Maguire copped more abuse than the rest of the PL top 20 added together. Other top 5, Rashford, Fernandes and Kane, hardly a racial bias in my opinion. Biggest bias was against Man Utd players, not matter what nationality.

Let’s keep peddling the story though that it is the black players who take any flack. Far better story than the reality.

Agree! The problem is that movements like BLM are begun with good intentions but prone to being hi-jacked by those with other agendas. Whilst there is still plenty of racism in the UK I do not think that either the black/white narrative or emphasis on what is happening in America is terribly helpful. The UK is not America (thankfully!) and racism within our culture is not just limited to black/white as on going "colourism" or prejudices between black/Brown communities or anti (white) Eastern European sentiments demonstrate.

Since it’s inception, I have disliked the ‘knee’ nonsense, I believe that it has always been counterproductive. I do not go to sporting events to be preached to and the right way to go is for people to treat others as they would wish to be treated themselves. None of us are perfect, though but the more that behaviour is followed, then hopefully, more people will follow. Sadly, there are far too many incidents, actions and behaviours that thwart that ideal. A large number of people such as footballers preaching to spectators is, I am sure, loaded with hypocrisy. I have the same dislike of the ‘rainbow laces’ nonsense, another minority group preaching to us. What would be the reaction to a footballer declaring that homo***uality is a sin against God? Some religions have that belief but you are not allowed to criticise someone’s choice of religion (unless it’s Christianity). The truth about many of the pressure groups, e.g. BLM and Stonewall, is that they are to a greater or lesser degree anarchistic and are looking for ways to disrupt our society; I’ve no time for them whatsoever, as a human being just be kind to other human beings.

I’m sorry Yarm but that’s absolute tosh.

There’s an incredible difference between giving someone abuse around the colour of their skin compared to their footballing ability.

Besides that list must be incorrect. Livermore must be top of that list!

Abuse is abuse Matt. You might be better to read the report but only 1 in 12 abusive tweets targeted the victims protected characteristic, such as race or gender.

Sounds like a shocking statistic to me Yarm, not a positive.

Also abuse is not abuse. Calling Livermore useless is not the same as what that bloke from Kingswinford wrote about Sawyers. Hence why he got a sentence for it.

That guy was a disgrace for abusing Sawyers but the Judge made an example of him. Dele Ali racially abused the Chinese and made a video of it but got away with a grovelling apology! Had Dele Ali been white he would have got a harsher sentence than the Sawyers moron!

You can’t have it all one way! Bit like those idiots complaining the girls football team is mainly all white. No one moaned last year when 10 of the West Brom players were non white!!!

PS - for me don’t care the colour, gender all ***uality but the best 11 are chosen. But it appears to matter to some - mainly white snowflakes!
