To win this league or even come top three, we need a strong start. I just can't see us effectively catching up with the top teams if we start slowly. This game, although very early in the season, is already pivotal. Win and it's a good start. Lose and it's a bad start - we'd be five points behind Chesterfield already, and I could only see that gap widening.

My gut feeling is that Chesterfield are just a better team than us, so they'll win. I don't think players like O'Brien and Francis would get anywhere near Chesterfield's (or Wrexhams's, or Solihul's) starting eleven, yet they are starting for us every week. We just look weak in certain areas, and as the last two games have shown, we still have the mental weakness and tendency to shoot ourselves in the foot.

I hope they prove me wrong.

    Stockport started well last season.

The problem with your point re. JOB and Ed is that all the teams you mention will have players that won’t get in to other sides. That’s the way it is. Budget dictates that. Go on Wrexham’s site and they moan about a couple of their players, including the keeper.

I think Notts are capable of being a damn good side this season. We just haven’t seen it consistently in the League yet.

The biggest issue for me is the system. We seem hell bent on 3-5-2 or 5-4-1 whichever way you want to look at it. It doesn’t get the best out of Ruben our best player and will continue to isolate Langstaff.
I’ve seen it mentioned about 4-3-3 and feel this would suit us - particularly away from home. Langstaff, Scott and Mitchell could run home defences ragged. Ruben can be in behind them with 2 CM’s. It would look more like a 4-2-1-3 in that respect.

2 or 3 upfront with Ruben behind would provide so much more space and options for our best player. Playing behind 1 striker, he is easier to pick up and mark.

I'm going against the grain and going to be nothing but sunshine and rainbows in this one.

    Notts 3 - Chezzie 1

    2 for Langstaff , 1 for Austin
