I would assume from your user name that you have never known Notts to be successful, only to ever see them struggle against constant relegation battles. That's why you keep defending them against the critics, because being sub standard football is all you have ever witnessed..

He is one of those that when after the first game several of us we calling the game garbage was posting about how great things were and we should be cheering for a 3-0. Now after 4 games everyone but the deluded few can see the turds that are being served up now that the polish and sparkles have gone.

Sadly we have been shown to be correct about our assessment of things but I see there a possible seeds of hope, when we changed things after 60 minutes were looked like contenders and it was Chestyfeels who were reacting to what we were doing and playing catch up. The players are capable of doing better but they don't. Since the owners took over we have been playing the same garbage dull football, I think it is time to look at them rather than the managers. Are they trying to play a game of football manager for real?

I have been a season Ticket holder for 30 years now but this year when LW stated it would be madness to change the way we played I almost asked for a refund.

We need to change the way we play if we want to succeed because one day that fans will stop coming. As for booing the players and managers, if they are serving up garbage they get booed, if that doesn't happen they they live in a fantasy world where they think the turd is acceptable.

    Same issue as last season.

Yes must have been a nightmare watching Notts at home last season as a season ticket holder. I believe it was 50 points gained from the 22 games at Meadow Lane losing just twice and scoring plenty of goals.

You can call it dull but effective football at home if you like but others disagreed as the crowd figures showed from start to finish.

Of course it's absolutely fine believing the current approach won't get us promoted it might not, finding the right approach has been tricky for a long time for Notts.

But you can't seriously pretend that being a ST holder last season with that record was tough and/or would result in a big drop in attendances at the Lane.

Yeah and smokers know that it is killing them but still do it.

Perhaps it is the fix they get from going to the match we all know the emptiness that seems to gnaw at us during the closed season and would do anything to avoid that full time. There is also that spark in us that just knows if we don't go it will be the game when they get their act together and start playing.

It wasn't a nightmare but it was incredibly dull for most of the time, the game against Dover, there were bottom of the league on minus points and we couldn't break them down for most of the match. I love going to watch the defenders kick the ball between them and the keeper for 80+ minutes.

The ground is like a morgue at times the fans feed off the excitement on the pitch and create an atmosphere that rises the players, but it is impossible to get excited about the 100th passback to the keeper.

Goal rattled us completely, as it did for a bit against Gateshead. We still seem to have a bit of a mentality problem when things started going against us.

Much of the rest of the first half was a mess, and a the start of the second half was awful. No intensity to anything we did at all. I think the wing backs did okay individually but they just don’t look completely natural in that position, and we have a huge problem in central midfield. It’s clear Williams wants someone alongside Palmer who has some presence and wins second balls, as O’Brien once could, but his legs simply aren’t up to any more than half an hour bursts any more. We’ve got to sign someone in that position who ideally has a bit of height and a proper engine. Austin could be this player short term, but doesn’t help with the lack of height in there.

Game changed completely with the subs and over 90 we probably had the better chances tbh, Langstaff will probably feel he should’ve scored another two. I’m a bit less down than others because I think a lot of our planning is around Scott and Langstaff as a front two, hopefully we’re closer to seeing that.

We need to find a way to get those two in with Rodrigues a bit higher up the pitch as well. Thought he did some good stuff but it was all around the half way line rather than the edge of the box.

Chesterfield looked good in parts, but let’s be honest if we’d folded like that from 2-0 up then the players would be getting absolutely killed on here. It’s a long season, I expect both teams to be there or there abouts.
Great post. We’ve been waiting 5 years (since Yates) for midfield player with presence and the ability to win those 50/50 clashes that turn games and generate momentum swings. I’ll give NA credit for at least trying to address it when he bought in Doyle, JOB and Rose but nothing even attempting to fix it since those 3. Too much talk about the back line and not enough focus on what’s in front - Had Yates stayed all season we could be talking about richard Duffy as a league 2 champion - just think about that for a minute.

So we passed back to the keeper lots , and played it amongst the defenders and deep lying midfielder in pretty patterns but yet we still managed to score 47 goals (only 1 side scored more on their own patch in their entire league) and win an undoubtedly impressive 15 times. That's pretty damn good with all that passing about in our own half, something must have been working.

You are others may have found this effective style at home matches dull that's your opinion and prerogative but the attendances suggest otherwise. Look at the bigger picture , look around you at the games and you will have seen lots of people paying week in week out to watch incredible dull football. Must be a hell of a lot of gluttons for punishment. Or this regular doomsday prediction of large drops in attendances just hasn't happened when forecasted in their not so crystal ball.

It's about balance. We have plenty of 'pretty' players, but no nasty players in the middle.
Who were the ‘bruisers’ in those sides, Dean Thomas, Phil Robinson? Both of those could play, as could Ravenhill and Bishop in the Munto team. This is what I don’t get about Palmer, to me he doesn’t offer anything that those 4 players could do. And that’s without talking about Ben Davies, who imo was our best midfielder of the last 20 years.

The club that we support must be able to afford a midfielder who can both tackle and progressively pass the ball at tier 5 of English football.

One flaw in your logic. I found it dull for much of the time, but the results were pretty good without us being exciting. I'll take that if it gets enough points on the board. The flaw is that even though I found it a bit dull, my attendance at Meadow Lane would be guaranteed regardless.

I suffered McParland's 'passing football', so I'm sure I can cope with this.
