Especially against the poorer teams we won’t need 2 defensive midfielders and from the evidence so far, Bajrami offers more than Palmer. Austin just brings so much attacking wise, he’s too good to be sitting on the bench. Obviously injuries and suspensions will mean everyone will get a decent go through the season.
I think you might be right about the one man furrow, I thought Palmer had a good game and it seems most other people did too. Stall and Charlie were talking about trying to keep their best players and mentioned him and Reuben, he seems highly thought of.

This isn’t a dig at NA, but after listening to that, it reminded me of so many times I heard those PM’s when he was at Notts. Do Solihull have a play off hangover? If so I’m not sure NA is the one to raise them. Not sure they will be the force they were last season.

Stall and Charlie? Haha good commentators but they give the impression every Notts player is a world beater. They made out Wootton was good, he doesn’t look quite as good now we’ve got a striker worthy of the name.

Great game today. Loved it. Was away on hols for first two home games so was glad to be back at the Lane today.
Thought it was a good reception for Ardley when he came out. Disagree or agree with his sacking or not, he was and is a genuinely nice bloke who deserved the applause.
Thought we were really at it today. Different approach than Saturday, but more composed imo. Bajrami looks a monster in the middle. We’ve been crying out for the midfield general, and he showed it in spades. Thought he was superb. Controlled everything and have an option each time as well as the hard man routine. Only one game, but I’d be scrapping the search for a midfielder and stick with him. Don’t get me wrong, JoB ran his socks off on Saturday, but the influence part of the game from Baj was superb.
Ruben looked like he wanted a Premiership goal today. Hungry and eager.
Langstaff and Scott occupied the defence well.
Yes we should have scored more and they did well to keep us to 1, but I also reckon it was a penalty. Want to see it again, but looked it from my seat.
Good atmosphere and the fans appreciated the tempo, pressing and the eagerness.
    Negatives…
Thought Brindley and his backwards passing nearly every time was an issue. He seemed to go forwards more 2nd half so maybe LW said the same to him, but he needs to look up quicker.
Still not sure on the goal kick routines. Always a heart in mouth moment.
    Great performance.

Bajrami 'played with a cigar on' was the phrase that went through my mind. He appears to read the game well, intercepted various forward passes and won tackles. If he plays like that every week we've got a top notch defensive midfielder for this level.

Comparing Langstaff and Wootton is a bit like comparing apples and oranges, two totally different types of player. I'd argue Langstaff is the long awaited replacement for Dennis and Thomas rather than a Wootton replacement. Looking at it, I'd say Scott is the Wootton replacement, the physical presence that can bring in assists and some goals but not necessarily the main goal threat

A real team performance and I'll try and do player ratings later, suffice to say that nobody will get low marks!
A job well done by all. Rock solid August. Onwards & upwards!

We've debated the merits of Ardley as Notts manager many times and everybody has their own view, but I think the reason most Notts fans still give him a warm welcome is because, above all else, he's a genuine and very likeable guy. I wish him every success with Solihull as long as it's not at our expense.

Just seen on the BBC website that Slocombe got a yellow. I think I missed that - was it an error on the BBC sport website?

Got it for time-wasting in the last few minutes.
