To be fair, whoever became PM faces incredibly difficult choices for which there are no easy answers and whatever decisions are made will upset some section of the electorate.

Just because you don't like someone or you think they generally spout rubbish does not mean that they are always wrong and don't raise genuine concerns or don't make valid points however. There are some things that I d o agree with that Truss has said. We do need to increase our defence budget (although with far greater due diligence than has been shown in the past over new equipment!) and we do need to urgently look at becoming more independent regarding energy and explore nuclear as well as solar, wind and wave more (I'm not sold on fracking quite yet).

I understand she is a Tory and she is right in saying that profit, in itself, is not a dirty word but it is if those profits are made by exploiting others and that includes poor wages or working conditions. The pandemic showed that most key workers -posties, couriers, retail workers, NHS and care workers etc-were amongst the most poorly paid. Society is never fair whether capitalist or communist and democracy is messy and not perfect but surely our leaders should strive to make it as fair as possible? Liz Truss won't and that is where I disagree with her and her ilk.

I think we're seeing a sea change when it comes to what people are willing to accept in terms of wages and conditions.

You only need to speak to other small business owners like I do and to business owners at cafes and restaurants and hotels as I've done this year to hear what they're saying about staffing issues at present.


Particularly with younger people, they're not prepared to do these sorts of jobs for the money on offer anymore.

It doesn't really matter how much you deregulate the jobs market if you can't get people to do the jobs on offer.
