I can't remember, but I hope no horse-racing meets were cancelled on account of the Queen Mother's passing. If anybody had decided to do that, they could have expected a hostile visitation from the Queens Mother's ghost!

Oh I forgot, we also played on the night of 9/11, home to Manchester City.

It's called 'performance piety' and it's used to show the masses publicly just how much you loved and cared for (insert name of famous deceased person here) and how much higher your thoughts and morals are than theirs. Oh, and their might be a knighthood in it.

I've just been up to Tesco to be confronted by a sign outside the store expressing their deepest condolences to the Royal Family.

Now I might be wrong, perhaps King Charles and his family travel miles on a regular basis to shop at my local Tesco and will be genuinely moved to know that they have the sincere support of this retail brand. On the other hand, the cynic in me says it's just hollow and slightly nauseating virtue signalling to the more gullible type of customer!

He's got a very good point.

Plus as far as I'm aware this type of reason for a cancellation is not a regular occurrence. Think back to the Dover and Kings Lynn away, that should put it in perspective nicely.
