I support constitutional monarchy. I take the view - others on this forum and elsewhere clearly do not - that this system of government is better than Presidency whether the President is elected or appointed. I will privately mourn the passing of the Queen. This is a weekend without football. I believe the FA and Premier League got this decision wrong as they have got so much wrong. It was a suspension of football that went right down through every level of football. Not only were travel and other plans disrupted at the very last moment but a huge opportunity for football and fans of all ages in this country to be together and show their respect was missed and replaced by empty stadiums and playing fields.

Right, as usual, on both issues Outwood, our monarch is granted enormous power, on the condition that he/she does not use those powers and keeps out of politics. It would not bode well should those powers be divested into a politically motivated President.

You can always rely on the suits running football to get it wrong, or as in this case, take the easy way out, just shut everything down and leave it to others to sort out the mess.

With you both in these sentiments, however, just waiting for all the republicans moaning about the cost of a State Funeral followed by a Coronation. It will probably amount to about 30p per head of population but hey ---any excuse.
