SO was just reading up a bit more about the Liverpool ticket issue and it seems the voucher system was introduced off the back of this. Those I remember well and I was a populare loon for a few years as I always had vouchers going spare.

So am I right in saying that for big games, such as Liverpool it was just a case of queing up on a first come basis, so folk that went to games may have missed out on games like this due to the glory hunters. I don't know why but I thought there would have been something in place to ensure regulars got first dibs on tickets.

In all honesty, I dinna recall tickets being an issue before Liverpool.
A lot of folk were in supporters clubs and they always got the full allocation, that's where I got all my tickets.
Liverpool they just messed up really bad, TBH it was probably the biggest demand for tickets ever up until that point

I was in the same boat, I always had heaps if spare vouchers as I got tickets through the SC.

Remember though, it was also not that long after the time that seats were being installed so you couldn't cram in as many as you wanted.

I wasn’t there, but we had 44000+ in for the cup quarter final replay in 67 (3-0 v Hibs).

In 70-71, even with a third of the main stand burnt down, we had 36000 at a hun game (0-0), and the 17 April ‘league decider’ against the tims (FFS Bumper min).

The King Street end became The Paddock (did it ****) in the summer of 71 which reduced the capacity. The first game in front of those benches was the 71 Drybrough Cup final. That was attended by Michael Stipe, according to Watty Feugh, and so impressed was he with the Brush’s opening goal that he went back to Athens, Georgia and named his band after Robb’s Elegant Manoeuvre. A mere 25000 at that one.

As an infrequent visitor to the place, with no emotional connection to it whatsoever, I often feel the residents of Aberdeen are a little harsh on it. Union St doesn’t look great but that’s the same with every town and city across the uk. Aberdeen looks lovely

Well I was at both those games.
Of course, an " official" attendance of 36,000 probably meant we broke the 40,000 barrier.
I can't see the Donalds declaring all the money.




Edit: As you've got the reference books out min, I seem to remember Alex Ferguson ( the hun) being sent off at Pittodrie

I think it might have been the League Cup first leg game v Falkirk in 72 or more likely 73. 0-0 at HT, 8-0 at the end I think Stuart Kennedy might have played for Falkirk that night. Gie’s a minute….

The Falkirk game followed a few 0-0 draws if I remember.

We stayed until the end but my uncle went hame at half time

Right season, wrong game. Fergie was sent off for brawling with Willie Young in the Scottish Cup tie at Pittodrie on 28 February 73. The Dons won 3-1 (Jim Forrest, Ian Purdie, Steve Murray), then we were knocked out in a home replay with the tim*******s after drawing 0-0 at the Glesca midden. Billy McNeill heider from a corner at the Beach End, just before the end. We somehow ended up in the main stand that night, and the ****ing goal was scored exactly in line with my seat. Faaaaaaack.

Fergie didn’t play in the 8-0 game, but Stuart Kennedy, Tam McMillan, and Jim Shirra did, as did Dennis Setterington who Eddie Turnbull had tried to sign several times from the hun*******s.
