Ahhh then there was little old Altrincham… fcuk me was that a poor game to watch in which Notts plodded to a victory thanks to a 5 minute spell in the first half.
I’d ask your Sheff Utd mates at what point in the season of winning games they’d want to lose games to make sure they don’t get promoted. I suspect they sing along about being promoted, especially at the moment. Personally I think it’s BS that any fan of any football club doesn’t want there team to be promoted in case they get battered week in week out. Also ask your Sheff Utd mates also how they finance the winning Championship football they are watching at the minute - if they say anything other than Premier League money they are lying.
I suspect if we ran a poll of what division would you like to watch Notts play in - realistic fans would probably say L1. Then there are those like me who would love nothing more than to see Notts at the top table - I don’t demand it, but everyone has a dream right?
I suspect most of us would love to see Notts at the top table but for many including myself that would come with the proviso of if we could compete. My worst nightmare is watching vastly overpaid players, who in the main couldn't give a toss, consistently getting thrashed by much superior teams in an attempt to achieve your ambition to avoid relegation it just doesn't appeal. Maybe if you are a fan of good football in general you subscribe to Sky & are happy just to see the superstars perform but if you support a particular club you are happy to follow them at any level providing you can compete ?

Some might argue that in the not too distant past we have had overpaid players. It’s all relative. I actually think 99% of players care, regardless of what we the fans think.
The problem with ANY promotion is in the main you are stepping in to the unknown and won’t know if you will compete. I’m sure Stockport thought they would go on. They may still, but it doesn’t look it at the moment.
As Sheffield United were mentioned earlier, they had a hell of a first season back in the Prem 3/4 years ago. Finishing something like 8th, but we’re in the cusp of getting in to Europe. Brentford last season did OK and beat the likes of Arsenal. This season Brighton are going well and are challenging at the top end, and that’s without spending 150m or paying stupid amounts of money.
It’s possible to actually get promoted and compete. Any fan of any club that says they are happy where they are, winning more games than they lose is nuts IMO. As fans we start EVERY season hoping this is the one where we get promotion, win a league etc… let’s not forget cup runs, we all hope to get a massive club in round 3 and beyond, knowing we are likely to get battered, but we still attend as it’s the hope that we can achieve something special. We have even beaten some decent sides in the not so distant past as well as getting a famous draw against Man City.

We did compete the last time we were in the top division.

In general we were quite unlucky and made some poor signings.

Only a few teams battered us. Leeds (home and away), Liverpool (away).

In general we competed, even in the games we lost heavily.

Don O’s injury and not signing a goal scorer did for us at both ends of the pitch. Along with some dire luck.

And that was on probably the lowest budget in the league (bar the dons)

I don’t think any of them would swap a season in the Prem for anything though......
Same here with the Red Dogs I am friends with, although their view has undoubtely changed probably due to that delighful string of defeats. They certainly were a lot more confident before a ball was kicked and after their lucky victory over the hammers.

We did sign a goal scorer ( Rideout) and then stupidly sold him to Rangers. What a mistake that was.

That was purely done for profit yet was seen by some (Jack Dunnet) as a good bit of business. What was also seen as good business was achieving relegation as he said we couldn't survive on such low gates. Brilliant short-sightedness eh? It led to another relegation the next year and even lower gates.

Pavis was the Chairman at the time of Rideout & was pure & simple, make a profit in a short space of time.

Why is this even on our forum, I'm sure their fans aren't interested In Notts and don't create a Notts thread on their forum
