I happen to agree that McClean should be free to express his views. Not totally convinced by his motives or that he's totally innocent of bringing some of the abuse on himself. The balaclava picture being an example.

What I will I say about him is that he's a horrible footballer. Fully 'committed' sometimes to the point of wanting to harm fellow players. He's not for me.

There's certainly a difference between being thought provoking and just provoking.

I genuinely haven't taken much notice of McLean. For my part, I think it unrealistic to expect an Irish person from the Republican tradition to follow all the 'expectations' of an English football crowd. From what I've read I can't see that he has been actively disrepectful in respect of poppies and the Queen - he simply hasn't participated. I suspect that the press have done the rest with invented 'fury'.

As for him being committed, I think it's noteworthy that whether that is seen as a good thing can depend upon the who is doing the seeing. Many of us remember Gerry Gow with fondness...

Interesting post Derby. Who for you is included in the 'establishment' and what specifically are the various ideologies that are being imposed on us (against our will?). Can you give me some examples of what you're thinking of when you say that there are restrictions on individual freedoms and liberties. What impositions are you talking about? What are you wanting to do/say that you are no longer able to due to these restrictions?

And can you give me the names of a couple of the best of the books on the subjects? I'm interested to read them.

What laws have they changed as examples of what you're talking about?

What free speech could you speak before the Marxist woke mob changed the laws, that you can't speak now? What would you like to say now, on this board for instance, that you don't feel you are allowed to say now?

I've no problem with any one of any Nationality speak out about what they think, that's why my Dad and his mates stood on the beach in Normandy. but don't complain when you hear something that you don't like or agree with.
J K Rowling(for example) spoke out women and the Trans issues/rights and the poo hit the fan from the "cancel" culture mob. They want you to listen to them but don't want to listen to you if you've a different view, they just spit the dummy out and cry "cancel" them.
