then who knows they could still send for Boris God help us.

Boris Johnson has dramatically pulled out the race for 10 Downing Street after admitting he cannot unite the warring Conservative Party.

The former prime minister had the public support of 59 MPs but required 100 to continue in the contest.

The race is now wide open for Rishi Sunak, the former chancellor, who has more than 140 Tory MPs backing him. Penny Mordaunt lags behind with the public support of 25.

Mr Johnson said he had "reached out" to leadership rivals Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt to see if they could work together in the national interest, but it had not proved possible.

In a statement, he insisted he had secured the 100 nominations needed to get onto the ballot paper - and that if he stood there was a "very good chance" he would be back in Downing Street by the end of the week.

He went on: "But in the course of the last days I have sadly come to the conclusion that this would simply not be the right thing to do. You can't govern effectively unless you have a united party in Parliament.

"And though I have reached out to both Rishi and Penny - because I hoped that we could come together in the national interest - we have sadly not been able to work out a way of doing this.

"Therefore I am afraid the best thing is that I do not allow my nomination to go forward and commit my support to whoever succeeds."

Surely you're not suggesting that Boris didn't really have 102 backers... Scurrilous accusation Elite

I don't like Penny Mordaunt, but she must have come under intense pressure from Boris and co to withdraw her bid (and had the offer of a top job no doubt). I'm glad she told him to eff off; his ego is too big to risk defeat, which would have been certain without the support of her backers.

To be fair to those various halfwits, 'sh!t on his shoe' is an accurate description of them.

Yep. I have the unfortunate situation where my MP is Lee Anderson. Mr 30p Lee.
Made a massive song and dance over the weekend about Bring back the fool, even claiming he had put his papers in for the vote, to then have to go quiet for a few hours due to Johnson pulling out. Shame Johnson's dad didn't do the same.

These 2 bob Tories are a real joke. I know that for a fact as I had the mis pleasure of Anderson when I was on Ashfield DC and Anderson was still in the Labour Party!!!
They're all relying on the lowest common denominator at the minute.

In fact, I have the badge of honour of '30p Lee' on his departure speech from the Labour Party. Apparently the Momentum group in his area, which I was going to be chair of, forced him out of his Labour seat! Amazing since we hadn't even organised a meeting at that point! The Momentum group only existed for a few weeks as there was no need for it, but apparently I was the reason he left Labour.
Nothing to do with the Labour selection committee refusing to reselect him for his seat and saying he couldn't stand under the Labour banner anymore. Honest! lol

¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬#Totally useless fact No 1; Sunak will be Britain’s youngest prime minister since 1812, when Britain was fighting the Napoleonic Wars. He is 42 years old.¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬

No need to make overtures about it. Given his age, will Richie Rich be the answer to life, the universe and everything?

    No.

But of the three spoken about, he does seem to be the adult in the room.

Yeah she probably is breaching some guideline or other, and apart from that I'm not sure giggling like a schoolgirl is a good look for a national news presenter.
