Yesterday I responded to a posting by Yak where he said that Warne had left us with a "load of dross". Derbymiller responded to my post with this -
oh come on everyone could see it was a false a position and we wouldn't have maintained it, if you think he recruited well, then obviously that is your opinion and you are welcome to it, but take each player that was was brought in and explain why you think that, i would love to see your views, because I could be missing something and I am happy to be corrected with well thought through arguments.
Clearly Derbymiller, yak, gru and others think that Warne is to blame for our current malaise. However, go back to the period before Warne left and it's very difficult to find criticism of the team (individual performances excepted). My recollection is that the majority were happy with the replacement(s) for Ihiekwe and that recruitment generally had gone well.
To prove the point here are Derbymiller's postings from earlier in the season, most are post-match.
13/09 post Watford
that was a wonderful point against a very good team. 10 points in 7 games is a great achievement and we have to believe we can do a shock next week. Wood was excellent at both ends, and the whole team gave everything. If Washington could get a shot on target we could have even won that, very concerned by his shot ratio to shot on target ratio. Eaves runs a lot but not seeing any ability to make the ball stick when it comes to him and silly foul to give that free kick away near the end. However these are small things that can be worked on overall a wonderful results and performance.
15/09 post Blackpool
A great result and the 2nd half performance was very good. We were slow out of the blocks and very lucky not to be behind in the first 10 minutes, better teams will punish us for that sort of start. We have a great midfield, when they are on song they have to be right up there with the top midfields in the league, no wonder that two of them were wanted by other teams. Creating a solid defence foundation was a good decision by PW we are difficult to breakdown, I am sure the top teams will do better against us, but most of this division will find us hard to play against. Washingtons work rate is outstanding but he isn't a natural goal scorer. very pleased for Kelly that was a real poachers goal, perhaps if we are lucky we could have found our goal poacher. Poor old Wiles played so much better last night than recent games, hit the post with a cultured shot and only Ogbene stopping him getting his first goal. Ogbene is better at home than away in my opinion, we need to have an outlet when we are away from home, Eaves should be that, let us hope he doesnt become a sicknote and it is just bad luck. Highlight for me was Bola, he did more in his time on the pitch than Bramall had done all game, made a goal, crossed the ball quickly when he had space, where as Bramall has to beat his man at least twice before crossing. It was nice for PW to speak so well of the lad in his interview as well.
If we can grab a point at Boro then we go into the break in a great position.

I think if we lose Warne we won't recover for many years, we would get relegated this year and struggle in L1 as a lot of players would leave in the summer or January. i was accused on an earlier post of promoting a view that PW hasn't been sufficiently backed, that is correct that is my view, I think PW is too nice to come out and say it openly but he hinted at it in at least one interview. It wouldn't surprise me if he left, if he is offered the job. I don't think it would be a good move for him, they won't be patient and PW needs time because his success is built on developing a culture at the club
18/09 post Mid’boro
That was an excellent point against a team that will be top 10 by the end of the season, 5 clean sheets is amazing at this level and the only concern is we don't create enough away from home. 1 goal away all season and we never looked like scoring yesterday, however what a great start to the season. We have hard games to come but take a few points from those hard games and build on that. I think if we can be 2 or 3 places above the bottom 3 by the time the world cup comes we will have done very well, all that depends on us keeping PW I am not convinced we will do that.
01/10 Wigan match thread
Don't look the same group or players and certainly don't look a team, no surprise really. very sloppy, some of the players don't seem interested and are going through the motions. We have to appoint an experienced manager and it has to be before the next game otherwise we will drop like a very big stone. Wood and peltier are not the answer this is the Championship not a sunday kids league where someones dad runs the team. Really need to pick up 2nd half, washington provides no threat going forward, but at least he is trying. Barlasar looks so dis interested, like his best mate has moved out of the area. We need some look would take a draw now
Suddenly, we have turned to "dross" with Warney taking a lot of the blame.
It beggars belief.
I've said the same thing about many players who have good debuts and then flop. Can we find similar posts repeating your opinion after Yates 40th+ games? And your outrage at him finally getting sold?
We all know you aren't averse to making the same point many, many times but curiously I can't recall these posts at the time??
