Proper banana skin that. Away from home against non league , early morning kick off and live on TV. It's a no win for the league side, all you can do is win. Which they did.

Let's talk about that second goal, that's a thing of absolute beauty, postage stamp stuff. Sensational finish.

Thats why goalkeepers should stay on their line.

It was the 96th they were 1-0 down anyway and about to go out.

I think he played or came on when we beat Bournemouth 3-1 in the cup.

It was, but the action was down the opposite end of the field. The goalie at that time was out of his box, standing close to the 18yard line and having no physical effect on the play. All goalies tend to do it, and it creates an opportunity for the opposition to lob him. Doyle scored a similar goal against Dagenham.

So you are 1 down with no time left, it's a cup game and you are about to go out anyway. Why would you want your keeper on his line when the ball and play is all the way down the other end of the pitch? I'd much rather the keeper be out where he was in the ball was won back by a South Shields player to then have an option to pass back and recycle the ball with a desperate punt towards the FGR box. Or if the ball was just hit long by FGR to waste time. I wouldn't want the keeper 20-30 yards back in that scenario.

Opposition lobbing the ball from just inside the half happens so rarely to me it was a no brainer. As you say it was where many keepers stand, that's because the head coach or specialist goalkeeping coach has told them to be. They know.

After all it takes something special and sensational like Wickhams finish to score.

Lose 1-0, lose 2-0 by conceding in the 96th minute makes no difference.

Keepers 'go wandering' and hover around edge of 18 yard box for many reasons, through balls/long balls over the top being prime examples you need an advantageous starting position.

He was about on the penalty spot.

It was top corner, that's what caused the problem. I thought the keeper was well-positioned and it was a great shot. Keeper was pretty close to it.

I can imagine Doyle after the game (yes, he was on the touchline), 'Not as good as mine ....!'

Doyle’s was very good as I think he had to control the skewed clearance from the keeper or defender but the keeper was well out as I remember.

You sure don't see these sort of goals very often. Once in a blue moon to be more precise
