Unfortunately several other teams seem to historicaly be able to roar much louder than us! I think we are more just an irratable growl.

Southgate has won 6 knockout games in major tournaments from 2018-2022…”

🤯 “The same amount from 1968-2016!”

👏 “Kane went ahead of Gary Linker as England’s top goalscorer at tournaments!”

With stats like that I think we should enjoy the achievements in front of us instead of immediately assuming we will lose the next game.

I agree Scum, we should enjoy these years of success a lot more and give Southgate and the players more credit than they get. But whilst I'm not assuming we will lose on Saturday, I don't think it's unreasonable either to suggest that they are stronger in depth and experience than us and on balance should be strong favourites, whether Southgate sets up to attack or defend. Just hope the midfield can get a bite into the game and relieve some of the inevitable pressure on our suspect defence. If we get chances, we certainly have got players to take them. But getting the chances is another thing entirely as when we are pushed, recent performances have seen us struggle to play with fluency. We seem to go from being quite poor, struggling to pass etc into suddenly clicking and looking brilliant. E.g Germany recently, where we looked awful until suddenly scored to pull a goal back and then overran them for 15 mins to go 3-2 up before being pegged back.

I think people just need to be realistic. We have some good players at this level and great young prospects in Bellingham, Saka and Forlan but not many, if any world class XI players, especially in defence. I don't think the sense of self entitlement, in that we should roar and roll over any team is that good for our mental health!

    Good post mate.
Bookies have us at 11/5 and France at 11/8. They are the current world champions and have the best striker in the world. So if we give them a game then we will exit the tournament with our heads up.

I’d have Rice on Griezman. Everything comes through him. Foden will come back and support Shaw with Dembele but Saka or rashford don’t offer that to walker with Mpbaee on the right.
Giroud is deadly in the box.

I’d like to see Kane play between the sticks more.

France Spain Argentina - any of these could all the way but Argentina probably would not still be in it if they didn’t have Messi playing for them. If we did manage to get past France on Saturday, that would send a big statement out to all the other teams left in the tournament. Have to say I’m not that convinced by Brazil.

As above I’m enjoying our contribution as we at least seem to be able to make a good fist of the knockout stages in recent tournaments

    Brazil are huge favourites
    But would you swap?
    Kane for Richarlison
    Rice for Fred
    Bellingham for Cassanero
    Raphina for Saka
    Vinicius for Foden
    Militao for Walker

They didn’t look great against the Swiss and lost to Cameroon.

Interesting comparisons and would go with you on Kane v Richarlison. But what about Neymar??!

Prob would go for Rice over Fred but Cassanero has huge experience and is a beast - I'd be concerned about him bossing the midfield and the young uns would need a canny and loud presence in Henderson.

You also didn't mention Martinelli who I have seen lots recently at Arsenal and I'd take him over Foden. Great player.

Our young uns look promising and against the weaker teams can shine. But against the more experienced and higher quality teams I'm concerned they will become much more peripheral.

    I think our youngling

Think Holland might have a big shout also to say nowt of the Argies who are gathering momentum. When Spain get focused, as I'm sure they will now it counts, they will be up there also.
