What you have to consider Cayton is that in reality the pay disputes and in many cases working conditions combined aren't caused by workers wanting to enhance their salaries above their pay grade .

What they are seeking is to maintain their capability to pay their way in life .

This isn't just about the present problems the country faces in the case of the NHS for instance , this is a sector where their terms and working conditions have significantly diminished over a 12 year period and finally they have arrived at breaking point and enough is enough .

The RMT dispute seems to me to be on the lines that the industry is profitable ( no pun intended ) which is must be given the dividends that are paid out to shareholders and the high level of corporate pay plus government subsidies but that doesn't seem to be available for those further down the industry's food chain so to speak .

In both these disputes in my opinion there is money that would settle both , this is a sovereign nation after all so the NHS dispute could be settled tomorrow with a phone call to the Bank of England .

The reason this doesn't happen is in my opinion purely down to the ideology of the government and a bit of class warfare thrown in for good measure .

The union's are pretty much on their own with this given getting any kind policy or solution is outside the capability of the Labour Party it would seem .
