Had we got Willliams straight after Ardley, I have a feeling we would have got the same outcome as IB. It’s been mentioned that we have players now who are better suited to the high pressing game we want to play. Wootton wasn’t mobile or quick enough to be that player, as good as some of his other attributes are. It simply wouldn’t have worked. Add Cal Roberts in to that… do we honestly think he wanted to do the horrible side of the game? Not a chance IMO. Again, as good as Roberts is going forward, I think it’s a blessing he left.
Roberts was a good signing, but fortunately for us he decided to leave at the beginning of this season. Had he not left we would have ended up having to pay his wages whilst being out injured for the season. We dodged a bullet with that one.
