He was brilliant at a time when balls were much heavier and football boots were like clogs and the opposition were allowed to kick you off the park.

Was he that good? Genuine question. I have not seen a lot of him at all. Was he overhyped or was he really that good? Better than Maradona or Messi? It's easy for people to jump on the Pele bandwagon at such a sad time so just curious.

Like they weren't all wrong about the "vaccine" and "convid". I remember them showing deaths in Italy and china. There not reporting all the sudden deaths now are they.
Andrew Tate suddenly being pushed out of news as a child trafficker and how he raped women whilst prince Andrew still is free. All the Epstein cover ups and lists not being published.
Like there not wrong about what is happening in Ukraine. How it is purely the west who have aggravated things and gone against the deal we made with Russia about NATO not expanding east of Germany.
Please dont encourage people to go off the media for god sake. Could you imagine some one on TV like neville saying "well he was average" it just wouldn't be aired.
I asked the question as they could have been people who had seen him play and not going off all the nostalgic bull**** that the media pumps out.
It is a forum is it not? It also seems like a quiet forum and posts in my opinion should be encouraged not discouraged.
It is a forum and keep on posting UG but be prepared to take some stick (and give it) on here.
ps. you're not BT without his rose tinted glasses on are you?
I have been watching football since 1952 and Pele is the best player I have ever seen live. Tom Finney, George Best, JOhann Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer would complete my top five.
Yes, plenty of 'stars' these days, however, the game has become so sterile on perfect pitches and with much of the physicality removed.
I had the immense pleasure to see him playing "live". He was a cross between a puma wearing football boots and a super human being.
Without any doubt whatsoever U_G he was the very best of the best.
A bit like our own Jimmy McIlroy, it's a shame a lot of his performances were never recorded on TV.
Some great replies. I honestly thought he might have been slightly exaggerated by the media but obviously not. Great to here, thanks
I had the good fortune to watch a live game, where Pele was playing for Brazil. He was a brilliant player I would certainly rate him as the best player I have ever seen.
My top five I have seen would be
1) Pele (Brazil).
2) Tom Finney (Preston North End).
3) John White (Tottenhan Hotspur).
4) George Best (Manchester United).
5) Bobby Moore (West Ham United).
I would also mention both Jimmy McIlroy and John Angus who were both a pleasure to watch.
