I like Slocombe, think he's a decent keeper, especially at this level, my only concern with him is penalties, never looks like he's going to get anywhere near one.
According to Transfermarkt Sam Slocombe has faced 11 penalties whilst with Notts.
10 were scored and the other one against Harrogate in August 2019 was sent wide of the post. with Slocombe diving the wrong way.
His record before he came to Notts was pretty good.

That's strange. Do we think he's got worse at facing pens or have the takers got better?

Do those 11 penalties include the ones in the shootout against that team in the trophy semi final?

I also like Slocombe but I think even Michael Doyle would have saved at least one out of eleven pens!

He's got older and isn't that agile any more.

Doesn't augur well for a play-off final penalty shootout.

True but if it ever reaches that stage then you know which team to lump on!

I think I have a solution. We include Tiernan Brooks on the bench, and make sure he specialises in penalty saves while on loan and training with us. If the scores are level after 119 minutes we bring him on. What better way to become a hero on your debut?

I have a genuine bug bear when it comes to keepers and penalties. Why do most dive before the ball is kicked? The number of penalties that are poorly struck or poorly placed - if the keeper stood still and moved once the ball is struck would give the keeper a greater chance of saving.
If the penalty is well struck in a corner, the odds are you won’t get there anyway. So why make a shootout a lottery by hoping you go the way the ball is struck? Put the odds in your favour, stand still.
